Bought a Pop Up frame today..on my way.

Just bought a small pop up frame today. It's a bit shorter than what I had wanted. But that's not a problem. It came with two spare tires and wheels. I also got 4 camper Jalouise widows W/screens and trim ($10.00ea). So I'm getting parts for my project .
Got a question. When you guys lengthen a HF frame with 2x4's do you use treated lumber ? The pop up frame is 6x7. And I want to make it 6x9. I might just weld the extension, and not use 2x4's

You will need to watch your axle position. On some pop up trailers the frame extends past the wheels which makes it difficult to move the axle back without a lot of cutting and/or welding. If you lengthen the trailer you will probably need to move the axle back.

On my old '57 Kenskill camp trailer the body extended past the frame 2'. They just placed a longer floor on the frame that was supported by just 2"x2". Seemed to be plenty strong. 2"x4" always screams "HEAVY" to me.

If I lengthen the trailer. I will add one foot to each end. I would think that by doing that, the balance should be OK. But I will have to check the pinch point. So the front corner will not contact the TV in a sharp turn. But it looks like there will be enough room. It also has a torsion axle

That would work fine as long as the pinch point is good.

You can also reduce the pitch point by making the front corners angled, like a blunt V-nose.

Finally got my bare pop up frame weighted to day, 220 lbs. Lighter than Harbor Freight, and I have a Torsion axle 6x7. I'm going to make it 76"x 9'6". I will start buying materials soon. Should be starting mid October-early November.
