Hi McDave. I really don't like the finish work so much, but have to get it done.

I actually have one just like that from the donor camper. There is nowhere inside for it to go, except up front on the V.. I think I am going to mount something underneath the trailer. I may go with a variation to the 5in square PVC fence post, with the gutter tray to pull out.

The square fence post will mount easier than rounded PVC and I like the idea of the gutter that I can pull out to lay the hose in. Thanks for that link. I hadn't even thought of the square PVC Fence post prior to that..

Hi McDave.. those lights are nice... all my 12VDC lighting is effectively solar with 500W of cells on the roof and 345aH of battery capacity on board.

Finally... back to work on the trailer after dealing with Hurricane Matthew last weekend. This is what I got today. I put the face on the electrical closet and finished the doors for it.

I'll mount them tomorrow and install the hardware. I ran out of time today (took the wife out for dinner and a stroll on the beach... major brownie points for me). It is a beautiful full moon here tonight and the sea looks angry (huge surf)...

Tomorrow and next week it is on to more trim work and final plumbing.

Got the doors mounted and put on the hardware. Looks good to me, but now I have to figure a good way to build the latches. Long story.. but it is not cut and dry as you'd think.



I have a vent louver to put on the bottom panel which is not a door. I have one for the top side by the entrance door. Convection should keep air circulation in the electrical part of the cabinet up top. The long door will be a closet to hang clothes once I conceal the wiring. I just need to panel inside the closet to conceal the wires.

Those cabinets are SOOOooo Nice! Really sharp and clean, simple and elegant. That looks much nicer than what you see in manufactured campers. I really like it, but I'm not showing it to my wife. I don't want to have to start this whole project over!

Seems like I remember seeing cabinet handles similar to yours with a push button that moves a spring loaded latch. I suppose there is a strike mounted to the cabinet face.

Thanks McDave. It is starting to come together. I'll take some pics later of why I am having trouble with latches. It has to do with the way the door frames line up with the cabinet faces... too much overlap. I have an I idea and I think I may use the magnetic catches.. and epoxy the plate on the inside of the door panel.

My sister is off sewing up my dinette cushion covers. I can't wait to get those back. I need to start finishing off the dinette soon.

I have the spring loaded rollers on the face with strike on door set up. The rollers pinch onto the strike when closed.
They are nice when you are parked, but DO NOT trust them in transit. Everytime I opened the door after transit, sh*t was everywhere and the doors were beatin' the hell out of themselves. I ended up drilling a 1/4" hole through the frame and into the edge of the door so I could "bolt"/pin them together. The pins are hidden pretty well and are on a piece of chain and hung/screwed right near the hole so they don't get away when parked. Same basic set up for the reefer. The pin just sets in front of door and blocks it from opening. Part of the issue is these are all real solid wood doors, they are over 125 years old and they're heavy. Also I didn't have stuff secured well enough with nets and bars. I'm learnin' though.. after I lost about $70.00 worth of some kickass Brisket between Sturgis and Belle Fourche. Stopped to gas up and opened the door, everything was out of the fridge, and it looked like Custer's Last Stand in there. Meat and sauce and buns and slaw and beer from floor to ceiling, and all over the Harley. Now, I'm not sayin' it all went to waste. But the wife didn't get any.
The Jameson was not damaged, so no biggie. Had to hose her out anyways after Sturgis. The trailer, not the wife. You know what I mean.
But I digress, and ramble...

Hi McDave, the problem is mounting the latches... not necessarily the type. The width of the cabinet faces is the same as the door framed. The mating side of the mounts would have to be screwed into the door panels which would look odd and are only 1/8 in thick. This was an oversight on my part. This is the first time I ever built cabinets, so I "live and learn".

I think I have the problem solved in any case. I bought some 88lb (pull force) round real earth magnets that I can embed in the face to make them flush and then screw the steel plate onto the door frame . Should work perfect given the door frames are offset from the cabinet faced by the thickness of the panel (1/8"). The door will shut flush and those magnets are so much stronger than your door magnets at Home Depot that I saw, which I'd also have an issue mounting.


If the two magnets work well... I'll repeat for the remainder of the doors.


I will be getting the baby lock straps for the fridge. Those worked well for my last build. Sorry to hear about the mess you had.. I learned that the hard way also...
