That's the main point. We simply out-built them in ships and planes.
And it's the same reason the Union won the Civil War. For 90% of it, the South was kicking the crap out of the Union. But the Union still had its manufacturers and railroads.
It's amazing how the simplest, most brilliiant statement ever uttered is so often ignored, one that EVERYONE knows, including my 10-year-old:
"Those that refuse to learn from history are condemned to relive it." (Maybe I'm not quoting it exactly, but you know the quote.)
That's why the Iraq war pisses off so many of us who lived through the Vietnam era. We learned SOMETHING from that, to respect the efforts of our servicepeople, but the parallels between that and what's going on today is scary.
