Made in China

Postby rampage » Wed Jul 05, 2006 10:41 am

My wife brought home a 4th of July cake that had some plastic Uncle Sam hats on it...well, I picked one up to notice in tiny writing "made in china".
I didnt know what to think so I had another beer.
I just thought you guys would find that interesting.

That's not suprising i had to buy a new flag this year, really had to look hard to find one made in the USA. Those commies are flooding this country with the garbage they send over here.

Dont get me wrong. I buy Japanese cars and I have some HF and WM stuff but some things should be made in the U.S. (flags, etc.)

Well, what do we expect....they send it over because we buy it! We're probably not going to wise up until you won't be able to buy something like an American built car, and wonder why there are no more jobs here.

I do price price shop being on a fixed income but i do look on the label to see where it's made, if i can find it made here at a reasonable price the made in CHINA junk stays on the shelf.

A couple days prior to the 4th, my wife and I were in Home Depot shopping for some Bar BQ grill extras and my wife handed me an item and said, "You've been looking for one of these". I took the item and was reviewing the label as a Home Depot employee came up behind me stocking the shelf and I told my wife, "Yep, I have been looking for one of these, but not made in China. I wonder if Lowes has one like it made in the good Ol USA?" The employee gave me a look and we went to Lowes. Lowes had the same thing made in China as well. I didn't buy it either.

It's all over.

Manufacturing and the quality of life in this country (from decent manufacturing salaries) is gone forever. It wasn't just the Republicans' or Democrats' fault, but which party did its best to kill unions? So after killing the unions little by little, all of this manufacturing could eventually be done overseas.

We are DOOMED here unless we start manufacturing again in large quantities. Not contracting those jobs OUT, but doing it all HERE.

For God's sake, I bet you we even buy bullets for our military from China.

NAM, the National Association of Manufacturers, has always been the predominant lobbying group for manufacturers. However, as a LOBBYING group, they don't care what's best for the country's future--only what's best for its manufacturer members, who are producing everything in China and Mexico now because of reduced labor costs.

And don't even get me STARTED on Wal-Mart's buying practices. That company is a bigger danger to this country's economic health than the missiles North Korea is now test-firing.
Here we go again!

And no matter what they do or have done, every year since Reagan, they have been granted "most favored nation" trading status. I don't understand. There is such an imbalance when it comes to trading with China. Our political representatives are so crooked that they allow the trade imbalance to continue. I still say on every ballot there should be a "none of the above" ballot. Otherwise, there is no other way to fire the Kerry's and Kennedy's.

I really, really, really dislike politicians.

Sorry for the rant, but this stuff gets to me.

I have had a job loss due to Chinese competition.

I used to work for Pennsylvania House Furniture.

We used all American (mostly PA hardwoods).

When the plant closed not only did we lose 450 good jobs in the area BUT many of our vendors/suppliers closed down as well!

A ripple effect!

I have also been to furniture plants in China...Where the workers make $2/day, work 10-12 hrs/day, 6 days/week.

They are hard workers.

Part of me believes that we embrace China for this unequal trade balance to eventually convert them to Capitalism.

You can see it there... A emerging class system. They are hungry for what we have.

Eventually they will demand more money and their competitive edge will be gone.

Moved to India or Viet Nam or ?

We forget that our ability to manufacture was what won WWII for us!

Cheers,

Coop

That's the main point. We simply out-built them in ships and planes.

And it's the same reason the Union won the Civil War. For 90% of it, the South was kicking the crap out of the Union. But the Union still had its manufacturers and railroads.

It's amazing how the simplest, most brilliiant statement ever uttered is so often ignored, one that EVERYONE knows, including my 10-year-old:

"Those that refuse to learn from history are condemned to relive it." (Maybe I'm not quoting it exactly, but you know the quote.)

That's why the Iraq war pisses off so many of us who lived through the Vietnam era. We learned SOMETHING from that, to respect the efforts of our servicepeople, but the parallels between that and what's going on today is scary.
Here we go again!

Funny, I thought it was the unions pricing their workers out of the market that resulted in everything being sent overseas.

That's pretty much it, they also manage to close down just about every place they get in. Most of the steel mills around here are gone due to them.
