Murphy Beds

I am planning to put a Murphy bed in my CTC. I looked at some images of others and I really like this setup shown. Has anyone made a similar setup? Wondering about type of hinges, leg setup, mattress options, etc. I got this pic in a google search. It may be from someone in the group, if so NIce Job!!!

you can sort of see the type of hinges i used on the folding legs and i used 4 of the same hinges for each half of the bunk.
i used a 1x2 strap to keep the legs moving together so that they drop down evenly since they don't hang quite plumb because of the offset location of the hinges.
btw that was that exact same pic i used to design my bed, lol

Thanks. I am guessing you didn't use piano hinges from what I can see. My secondary concern is "locking" the legs so they don't fold up while the bed is being used. I also wouldn't mind if one side could be dropped and use for seating. Thanks again.

Years ago I had a similar setup in a ford van. I spaced the first hinge further off the wall, so that the mattress pads could fit in the space when it was closed up. I used the same type of hinges seen in the photo. I never had a problem with the legs sliding out once the bed was down, but if that is a concern, a slide latch like this could be used to lock the legs in place.

Very helpful replies, thanks. I only have about 4" of clearance with my Harley Tri-Glide loaded to work with. So, it can't be wider than a 2 x 4 when is up against the wall. Probably use a air mattress for the bed.

I just use one of the 22" high deluxe air beds. I sleep like a baby. Takes 2 min. to deploy or deflate with the built in pump. Folds up and stows about 1'x2'x10", weighs approx. 10lbs. Works for a couch (sort of) as well. I only sleep in it 20-30 times a year, but I like it, a lot. Full size fits tight crossways, (Head at one wall, feet at the other) and still leaves room to move around in the cabin 6'x12'. Best $45.00 I have spent in a while, problem solved, zero construction.

Tri-Glide fits pretty good with about 7" on each side. Looks like the Murphy Bed will work nicely. Also got E-Tracks installed. Getting there.

I would suggest 2 inches of memory foam over the air mattress. That would sleep really well and still leave you plenty of room.

Thanks Tom. I had considered that. Any idea what a queen size piece of 2" memory foam would cost? I would actually need 2 pieces equal to a queen size. Thanks again.
