I actually had a fan in the exhaust flow but felt like it was blocking the airflow rather than helping it escape. I pulled it out for now but can add it back if needed. My shround is only velcroed in place for now to make sure all is working before permanent mounting.

Looks like it may be hot this week so it should get a real test.

I ran it for 4 or 5 hours on Saturday and another few hours yesterday. Seems to work well. Fingers crossed!

Looks like my road trip to Indiana will be a good week to really test it!

WOW!! Was it hot and steamy at Crossroads of America!! 95 degrees with about 90% humidity! The heat index was actually 104-107 Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. Then the rain hit on Saturday night, and Sunday morning. Thankfully we had the air conditioner!! It did seem to short cycle just a bit, so the humidity in the camper hovered around 60-70%, but the interior temperature was a nice 70 degrees. For an air-conditioner setup that can be easily removed, I'm calling it a success! 1,377 miles round trip!

Glad the AC "sort of" worked out for you. Yall picked the hottest week so far for CRA so if it did OK there U should be fine everywhere else.

Cant wait to get mine finished so I can hit CRA next year.

Yup, worked well enough for a removable system! You've got time... Next CRA isnt until 2019. BUT.... Next years mega gathering is Teardrop City Gathering, in Max Meadows, VA.

Got a lot done this weekend, including parting ways with the X-II. The new owners already have trips planned and I'm sure they're going to enjoy it!

Installed the shelf in the sleeping cabin, and worked on the upper galley....





Galley counter is starting to look like something...



And finally beginning the framing for the trolley top...







I have a long list of parts that need ordered, so tomorrow and Tuesday will be a bit of a shopping spree.

So did you use mainly 2x3s or 1x3s for framing?

The last modification seemed to work well. No more changes planned.

So did you use mainly 2x3s or 1x3s for framing?

Everything was pine 1x3 except for the spar where the hinge gets attached to. I used two oak 1x3's laminated together (ripped down to 2" wide) for extra strength.

I've been on vacation for the past week so no build progress has been made. However, before I left I gave the drawing for the tongue extension to a local fabrication shop. They called while I was gone and said that it was ready so I stopped over on my lunch break today and picked it up.

Why a tongue extension?
Extending the tongue creates a larger distance between the rear bumper of your tow vehicle and the front of you trailer. This means you can maneuver into a tight camping site easier because you can turn a much tighter radius without worrying about your trailer hitting your bumper. With my last build, I could get my car and teardrop 90 degrees to each other and still have wiggle room. Backing the trailer is also MUCH easier with a longer longer distance between your tow vehicle hitch and the trailer wheels. And finally, it drastically reinforces the tongue and gives you a much better place to mount a wheeled tongue jack. Mounting a tongue jack on one half of the a-frame tongue works, but it puts a lot of torque on the one side of your frame. Is extending/reinforcing the tongue necessary? Nope. But it makes a huge difference!

Cost for steel, including drilling the seven 1/2" holes was $67.58. I don't have a drill press, so this saved me at least an hour worth of work and a $20 drill bit. Totally worth it.



The grouping of 4 holes at the right end is for the coupler. The coupler that came with the NT trailer kit (made for 2-1/2" tongue) gets replaced by a coupler for a 2" tongue. New coupler was $24.99.

The two vertical holes towards the left end are for bolting the extension to the first two frame rails. The hole that is 56-13/16" from the left end is for a bolt to go through the flipped coupler mounting plate (which already has holes through it).

Total cost for tongue extension (including taxes) was $94.33. (This does not include paint or nuts/bolts)

I'll take a couple pictures once I get it painted and installed.

Didnt have to move the VIN plate. Its still mounted on the original tongue diagonal member. This modification doesn't remove any original components, it just reconfigured them and added strength.

You were lucky. Mine is on the factory tongue. I really don't like the C-channel member, and would like to go with a longer piece of square tube.

The C-channel is where my VIN plate is located, and those still provide lots of stability. The tube that was added down the center just relocates the coupler forward about 2 feet and strengthens the tongue assembly. Original c-channel still there.
