I feel old because I know who he is.

And I bet 50% of the people here DON'T.

Ol' Red was a hoot, to be sure. Haven't heard from him in years, but I'm sure he'll be missed.
Chris :D

The tension between what is good enough and what is beyond that creates the space for character to become our work.

Poor Red, His popularity has waned since the sixties but he was funny to a lot of people. http://www.deadoraliveinfo.com/dead.nsf ... uttons+Red
Regis Filbin always made me remember Red Buttons (but I don't know why for sure).
Why do the entertainers from the 30's 40' 50's seem to live so long? i.e. George Burns, Bob Hope, Bing Crosby, etc.

Dead celebs don't make me feel old. Getting out of bed in the morning--now that makes me feel old!
Still graced with two eyes and ten fingers (due in no small part to luck!).

Just when you think a problem is solved, an uglier result replaces it.

Shucks, I remember when Arthur Godfrey was on radio right after Marconi invented the thing.

Red Buttons was one of the great Jewish commedians of Hollywood. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red_Buttons
Another commedian of that time was Steve Allen. As a teen I visited his playhouse theatre in Hollywood. The side walk outside had saussage impressions and the inside looked like he was trying to destroy the building. They did a lot of looney skits back then, I miss them all especially Red Skelton. RIP Red Buttons. Danny

I only go as far back as Johnny Carson. What makes feel old is seeing girls at my daughters grade school that look like they're in their 20's. Whatever happened to pigtails and freckles?

I get a lot of talking books from the library. I rarely listen to the radio when I drive..... recently got a 'talking book' of old time radio comedy, which I thought I would really like....

I found the skits from Jack Benny, The Great Gildersleve, Amos and Andy, Burns & Allen, etc., simplistic and silly. And the laugh tracks way too loud. The best part were the advertisement jingles. "Wash the dirt right down the drain!".

Way back when I was young and they were our basic entertainment, I loved them. I've also found the 3 Stooges and the Marx brothers now strike me as silly..... I guess a lot of things have changed... and it makes me wonder about the 3 stooge groupies...
