The mattress may be the most important item in a teardrop, the cabin is for sleeping.
The bed with mattress I installed does not please She Who Must Be Obeyed.
I had no idea I was living inside the story "The princess and the pea". Turns out I do live there, and she can still detect that dang pea.

So my advice is to spare no expense on that mattress, it can save a lot of trouble if you get it right the first time.
Try it out, make sure you like the feel of it, buy a custom one if you need to.
I'm accumulating quite a collection of mattress pads and toppers and air mattresses....
