Here you go. I am done, except the 1/2 inch plywood deck and facia trim to contain the mattress. Will try to hang it tomorrow. Going to be a job to rip the old heavy wood bed platform out.

For hinges, I just drilled a hole in the wood and glued in a Teflon bushing then just used stainless hardware as you can see. There is about a 3/8 gap either side of the drawer, so I just used some fender washers and an oversize nut to serve as a bushing to space either side even and take out play. It seems to work well. That is how I had it constructed under the wood frame also.

The gas struts will go back on as well. The other strut mounts screw into the bottom of the bed deck.

Thanks Hank. I hope all is well with you. I get out of Covid-19 isolation tomorrow.. Overall I just had minor symptoms but I did lose my taste (some say I never had any) and sense of smell a few days ago. My wife has some respiratory issues; however, one of our daughters is a Nurse Practioner so she quickly hooked her up with some steroids and antibiotics. Wife is doing well now. All said, we have both had worse flus and colds.


We should have some immunities for a while. Time to get back out there!

New frame installed. I just have to wait until I can bust quarantine tomorrow and then I will get the eyelets, re-attach cables, and install the 1/2 inch plywood decking and facia trim. This bed is super lightweight compared to the wood I took out. I lifted this in the CTC very easily by myself.

I might note, the days were numbered on the wood frame. Good thing I used the galvanized metal joist hangers and such to join the wood. Everything was loose when I took it apart. The screws were just working their way loose and breaking loose the wood threads.

Definitely glad I decided to fix this before I had more issues on the road. I don't think it would have taken too many more trips down long wash boarded dirt roads with miscellaneous potholes.

I will not gain much in the center especially since the drawer was the lowest point before as well. Will gain about 2 inches either side of the drawer..

One thing you besides using nylock nuts you can do to prevent hardware from vibrating loose
is to use a dab of fingernail polish (lacquer paint), as a thread locker or just buy a small tube
of Lock-tite Blue.
Have you thought about how much this is going to effect your weight & balance?

Quick video on new bed: I still need to add the deck, but I got the cables hooked back up. The winch makes light work of this. Bed is so light now. Decking will add another 45lbs approximately.. but still light.

I suggest this, if loctite is the source. It is anaerobic and dries well also allows for better quantity control. Or get a lock washer

Nice video, and allowing us to "stay in the loop". chuckle.

Those clevis' that you used to cobble the frame to the cables, could use
some mechanic's wire to keep the screw pins in. Referred to as "Mousing"
the pin.
