Garages

Things that don't fit anywhere else...

Fellow teardrop Builders,

I am a little disappointed in your attitudes towards some of these fellows in their garages. A good garage loaded with tools and cylinders (preferrably internal combustion) is a measurement of a man's self worth.

Please allow me to introduce you all to what we here in Minnesota call Garage Logic... anything that is worth figuring out WILL be figured out in the garage. Most of the great inventions in the world in the last 50 years have probably started out in some garage with a couple of buddies having a few cold ones or over a pot of coffee in the garage and making something that solves a problem!!

See the "finishing of the garage" is why the garage needs to be heated in the winter because we get down to 20 below and that is when the water pump goes out on the truck. And yes my garage has a 30k wall mounted a/c unit. Because tonight at 9:00pm it is still 92 degrees and it has a wood burning furnace with a propane ceiling mounted 35K heater. See the space is available for year around work.

Sheetrock and insulated walls and ceiling painted makes the lights brighter and the idea of having a nice well lite workspace is actually safer.

I would agree the $1 million for a garage is a little overboard. But, the fellow with the vehicle lift and a shower makes me think about how I might be able to accomplish that. I've got the toilet and sink already in and working.

Please fellow teardrop builders, I have also heard the garage referred to as the Men's Crisis Center !!! Whenever, I need to get away for a few moments the garage is always there. And yes this December the Norwegian (my lovely wife) and I celebrate 25 years of marriage.
So, a well designed well functioning garage is NEAT!!

Mine is a constant struggle to keep neat. What helps is I now have a big shed, or as its referred to as "Service Building #5" Where I can put Junk. All that "I'll use it someday" stuff.

It's been a long time since I have had a chance to listen to Joe Soucheray. I'm usually at work when his show is on, and I can't pick it up where I work. There are only two radio stations I can pick up: The local FM station in Red Wing (KWNG) and WCCO. But I use to listen to Joe when I worked up in the cities. I got off work early enough that I could listen for the 1 hour drive on the way home. You can listen online if anyone is interested. The show is on from 2:00 PM to 5:30 PM (Central time). Go to http://www.am1500.com/garagelogic.htm for more info.

In Garqage Logic, your status was measured using the CI scale (Cylinder Index). It is real simple to calculate: Just add up all the internal combustion cylinders you own. I hate to say it, but mine is pretty low. I have 6 for the minivan, 4 for my car, and 1 each for the lawn mower, snow blower, and leaf blower. Add it all up, and my CI is 13. Pretty pathetic, but I'm working on it. The hard part is convincing the wife.

Len,
Len Sr. is proof that a quality garage is the ticket. 84 years old, and a cocktail at 3:45 everyday. I love it. I will crack a cold one for Len Sr. today at 3:45pm (let's see is that eastern time or central time? oh well I'll do both just in case.)

Bill,
Since this forum is nationwide I did not want to use Joe Soucheray's name but the GL (garage logic) ideas are what is important. Last time I counted my CI (cylinder index) is 44, and I'm 53 so I've got work to do also. A good rule of thumb is that your CI equals your age.

Aunt M and madjack,
Neat means "cool" or as my 13 year old son says "our shop is way cool, dad"
By no means is my garage clean. Maybe another adjective is nifty, get it!! Just like teardrops they are nifty, neat, cool, "way cool dad" !!!!!!

I eefin LOVE that!

No one gives me a hard time about this at my job. And one of my coworkers who isINCREDIBLE at his job has one of these clean, neat and tidy desks.

But he's the ONLY one out of 25 people (21 women) to have a desk like this, and he works like a dog to do his job, which is 100% mpre than anyone else there, and keep that desk and office so neat.

Yeah, he's gay, so maybe that helps.

Me--straight as an ARROW, and a total slob.

But ooopss.......

Did I steer this into a religious direction here? Where Christians are going to tell me that he's going to hell for being gay?

If so, remember that cleanliness is next to GODLINESS, and as a general rule, gays are a LOT cleaner than the general population.

That's all I have to day, but please--no private messages from any born agains and ministers here. You're simply wasting your time.
Here we go again!

Ira, that is one hell of a flame ya got going there, twice.

I had a clean garage but I bought shelving (saved my allowance) put it together and got all the junk out.

Mike being the provider of the family saw the empty space as a reason to stock up some more. All things baby. I got him a shelf unit just for extra buying and forgot to get an extra for the extra baby stuff.

Now I got addicted and my clean garage has wood everywhere. :D

Our garage gets used for a lot more than just building a tear or working on the race car. I'll give you the 50 cent tour.

On the first wall we have "R" compound tires, race jack, and air tank for the car. Here you will also find an old Sunn amp, a half a dozen guitars, and a Kustom PA. Some one looking really close might notice the spent 105mm, 40mm and 30mm rounds in the corner.
Image

The next wall has a computer that has thousands of MP3s that is connected to the PA to make a really nice jukebox. Also a Craftsman tool chest and Kiss dynorama.
Image

The third wall has some of the more important things like a "old frig full of beer" and a grass skirt. (and Merlin in the lower left corner)

Lastly comes the center piece of my our "garage", I think it speaks for it's self.

:envious:  :applause:

But where would I work on my carrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

That is really pretty, and I'm just giving ya a hard time. My cars live in the garage and I move them when I need a dry place for my projects.

Right now I could use air conditioning, had to quit.

Has it been anyone else's experience that a larger garage just gives more room for more stuff. You know, stuff expands to fill the space available.

I built a really nice 10 x 14 shed to store the overflow...before I could start to move stuff in, my wife took it over for her pottery studio!! Now I have to rotate stuff like the lawnmower and the snowblower in and out depending on the season.
