Steam an issue when propane stove is mounted under hatch?

Postby bartek » Mon May 10, 2021 10:59 am

I'm finalizing my galley design, and looks like most folks opt to fix their propane stove on some sort of slide out.
I like the convenience, but was wandering if it creates any issues down the road, since I imagine the steam created when cooking would be directly hitting the hatch (which in my case is plywood with spar urethane finish).
Would love to hear from people with this setup and learn from the experience. Thanks!

Mine is under the hatch. It’s been so for 13 years.

Never any issues. Lots of ventilation back there.

Unless you're boiling off 1-1/2 gallons of wort you shouldn't have any problems.

Exactly what we had in mind by keeping our stove separate from the galley

Yep, you are massively overthinking this. Cooktops have been under / in wooden compartments for decades.

Under the hatch on a teardrop is VERY well ventilated.

And like you said, you are using spar varnish on the wood, which is what they use on boats.

Do you think your stove / steam is going ot make and keep the environment more constantly humid than what a boat is exposed to constantly?

I'd go for the slide out just to be sure you have counter space to work with that the stove isn't taking up...

Good luck, and share pics of the build!
