This weekends work. One of the first things I did was hinge the bunk lids and install a prop on them. I was just getting sick of crawling in there and holding the lid up with my head. Did all the valances and day-nite shades, front cabinet sliding doors and a lot of varnishing.

The end is near!!

Len, what method did you use to attach the tent poles to the side of the trailer? I'd sure love a cool awning like that.

Banjo
I used a spring loaded pole I made with a point on 1 end to go on my outside awning tube, and a table leg rubber bumper to rest on the trailer side.

I'll tell you how to make a spring loaded pole, you'll have to figure out your length according to your fabric.

First I went to home depot and bought 1 piece of 1/2" EMT (electrical metal tubing) and a piece of 3/4" EMT, 2 springs that would fit in the 3/4 EMT. Compressing springs not stretchy ones, about 5" long. Cut the EMT in half. Slide the spring in the 3/4 and put a rivet in the tube to stop the spring, then about 1-2" up from that I put another rivet in to hold the spring from falling out. Put the table leg bumper on one end of the 3/4. Insert the 1/2 EMT into the other end. I plugged one end of the 1/2" EMT with a wood plug and ran a screw down the middle of that. Cut the screw head off and there you go, a spring loaded pole with a rubber bumper on one end, to rest against the trailer and a spike on the other to go into the outer awning tube.

Hope this helps.

Happy Trails

Len

I'm wondering if an adjustable shower curtain rod could work as well, they are spring loaded too. Just modify one end to add a spike.

Kevin
A shower rod will work. The problem for me was that they wern't long enough. 5' is all the longer they are (maybe a few inches longer) My, and most awning fabric is 8'.

Another reason I didn't use a shower rod is that, you could extend the one rod to make it 8', but they would be 2 different metals. Its not good to mix metals.

Well, for all intensive purposes...I'm Finished. I have to install my Solar array, some curtain side valances and maybe a shelf here and there, after we've lived in it a bit. But I'm considering them accessories.

Thanks for everyone's Kind words and support.

We're taking it out for its second trip next weekend (as a finished trailer) to a TearJerkers Liberty Bell Chapters Fall Foliage trip in southern NJ.......Yea, right, taking a big trailer to a Teardrop event. I know the assistant director. He'll let me in.

Len,

I am impressed with the job you did on the '62 Shasta Clone. Looking at your build photo I realize there is almost as much in there as there is in my kitchen and bathroom in the way of plumbing, electrical and fixtures. And I know that stuff takes time. You're gonna hang onto that one, right?
