You're gonna hang onto that one, right?

Mike...

If it were up to me,I'd keep it. But I already gave it away. Its totally up to the new owner what she's going to do with it.

But I'm sure my wife will want to keep it. She's been out there all day Accessorizing.

Though I don't think I will ever be done! BUT, I think Today I finished my last big project on the trailer.

I installed 2, 150 watt solar panels, a couple of real flame throwers and a contoller/monitor. Coupled with 2, 6 volt deep cycle golf cart batteries, I think with dry camping..I'm OK.

Len,

Wow, that's a nice solar system. You should be able to boondock as long as you want with that. I bet you have enough juice to run the fridge too.

Len, are the panels guaranteed to be hail-resistant? Are you going to make covers for them for protection?

Sometimes I pretend to be normal. But, that gets boring...so I go back to being me.

Dale
Thanks for your concern. They are pretty rugged BUT..I do have Plexiglas covers for them. My neighbor had a big walnut tree that stretched out over my trailer area and that prompted me to build the covers. But I'm not that concerned with hail as we don't get that much here in PA. In fact I don't remember the last time we got any hail here. I know in other parts of the country it is a problem but here all we have is Walnuts, branches and the occasional baseball.

Did you plex or lexan? Lexan would probably be a better choice. Now that you said that it hardly hails there, that means it will. 8)

My neighbor had one of those Shasta's when I was a kid. It was a yellow and silver color. He was always tinkering with it. He would fit in with the TD bunch today. Oh are you going to put the tail fins on yours too?

I finally got all my trailers together at once, so I took a picture.

We had a Weekend at Al's Acres. Backyard camping at its finest.

As I said earlier..your never done. I was looking at some old photos of early Shasta compacts and some had a scaloped rear shelf.

So I built a rear scaloped shelf.

Len, some of us who are restoring little Shasta's are looking at your project with openmouthed wonder and admiration. I am also wondering -- how did you make the wings? Any chance for a close-up pic? They look like they're clad with aluminum but it's hard to tell for sure. Wow that is one incredible trailer you got there.

Bev T asked me to do some plans for folks with Shastas that had lost their wings and wanted to make new ones. The wing file is on this page and this page has some discussion and photos of making wings.

Thanks so much Andrew. Without your help those of us who got our trailers without wings would still be wingless. The next little part of the wing project I'm trying to figure out is what kind of molding would be best for the edge trim, where to get it, and especially how to do a neat professional job of bending it around the front curve. I made some homemade wings but to me they still look kind of, umm, homemade. Len, yours look nice and crisp.

YOU'LL NOTICE THERE ARE NO CLOSE PHOTOS OF THE WINGS!

That's because I butchered them so badly that they only look good from a distance. But thanks for the compliment.

HOWEVER

I have since found a way to do them properly, using Andrews Plans, but improving on the bending methods and materials used.

I enjoy using commonly available materials, you will never Hear me give advise telling you that theres a place in West Guam that has something you can use but shipping will kill you.

Simple obtainable materials. If I can't buy it at Home Depot or any other local national supplier..I don't mention it.

Anyway I have a way, using a simply made jig that I can bend the aluminum channel, I got at Home Depot cleanly with.

Another thing I'm doing. I'm not sure I can seal these things so they don't get water damage. So I'm making them out of a material that is impervious to water, That new Plastic 5/4 deck material (Veranda) & aluminum.

I'll be posting an instruction site after the holidays. The bending process is easy. I'll keep you posted.

Thanks for the interest.

Happy Trails
