Yes sir - that's exactly what you do. After it dries (usually the next day depending on hardeners used, outside temp, humidity, etc.) treat it just like finishing putty.

Even better on that first day, would be a scraper. I use a paint scraper or a cabinet scraper. You'll get a nice finish, no dust! If you try to sand "green" epoxy, you'll just gum up the sand-paper. Using chopped 'glass could make a milky looking filler, due to the introduction of bubbles.
If you need to match surrounding wood, try using sanding dust from scraps of the wood you are using. I just empty my sander's dust bag into a coffee can, for use later. The filler will tend to come out a bit dark, so, I usually add some really light "dust" (sand some pine) to the mix. Trial and error will show you the right mixture.

Indeed.

11/09/06

Trailer $189.00
Lumber/Hardware $244.83
Epoxy/Fiberglass $131.88
Windows $122.50

Total $688.21

Incredible... You're gonna get out of this with under a grand eh? I gave up counting and all I now have is two really nice HF trailers and a pile of used lumber. ;)
Started many, finished none... Bought a TTT <Sigh> ;)

Steve Frederick Nice tips Steve - I think I'll try the scraper. I hadn't thought of that.

Jimbo - That's what I'm thinking, it'll probably be around $1000 when I finish.

You planning on building two campers?

Long story... I had built a cubby but it was too small so I destroyed it and stripped it back down to the frame. The other one was for a "Weekender" that I started but never finished. Unfortunately, I work a lot so I don't get much time to build. So, long story short, I have two infant TTTs. Both trailers are licensed and ready to build. I have a majority of the parts just not the time.

Ahhhhh yeah - it's the weekend. Go time!

Got two of my windows temporarily installed. I'm about to hit the lumberyard for some more stuff - screws, wood, & paint.

Fiberglassing today, then paint!

I'm glad I went with the radius windows, I think it fits the shape of my camper better. $30 each at Lil Bear. I have a third one that I'll install in the door.

I was wondering if I could have your trailer when you are done? ;) Your trailer is looking real good.
Heh, I think will put the two last roof skins on my tear today. If I hurry I'll be able to go camping with you guys. :D

Steve,

How much ground clearance do you have below the side walls?
From the view in the photo it sure looks close to the ground.

NightCap - No, you can't have my camper when I'm done. No harm in asking though. ;)

"If I hurry I'll be able to go camping with you guys. "

Cool - we'll meet ya at the Grand Canyon! I'll bring a turkey. You are talking about next weekend right?

Kevin A - It measures 8" from the ground to the bottom of the sides & that's with some air out of the tires so I can get in/out of the garage. :) I imagine it will have 9" when the tires are full. It has more clearance than most cars, and the tow vehicle. It sure looks low though - I like it. 8) I drew it up in my CAD program with and without the side 'skirts' or whatever the heck they are. It looks much better with the sides really low IMO.

Even if I worked around the clock I might not make it to the canyon by this weekend. But save a drumstick for me. :( I like the paintjob. Are you going to paint a contrasting color below?

Yup. Black. Not sure what color I'm going to paint the rub strakes yet. Maybe a brown. I kind of like contemporary. I'm also going to trim the edges of the camper in black - that really sets it off. :)

That will look cool. BTW I got my outside skin done. I decided that I am going to paint the wood white and coat with resin or epoxy.

Ummm - did you mean just the opposite? You're going to coat the wood with epoxy resin, and then you're going to paint. Right?

Congrats on the skinning!

Oh, and that camera attached to the kites - so cool!

Thanks, Yeah I am going to fiberglass the wood first, but what do I use over the paint? For example after your done with the white are you going to put anything over the paint? Some sort of clear coat?

Yeah, I like making those big kites. Now I'll be able to stay at the beach in style, eh? I think that is why I like your trailer style, I could sit on the bed and sew kites inside that thing.

NightCap - "but what do I use over the paint?"

Nothing. The paint is the final step. You could use an automotive paint with a clear coat, but that's way above my skill level.
