Help With Hatch Latches

Postby John6012 » Sun Nov 12, 2006 11:33 am

I bought the hatches from Grant at Lil Bear and can't figure out how to mount them. I have the aluminum strips on both sides and bottom of my hatch, (the ones that you can cover up the rivets with slide-in vinyl trim). My question is, would you recommend a "notch" cut out of the aluminum trim? That is, cut off the outer edge so the clip will fit solid and flat? Thanks

John, notch the trim and let your hinge overhang the side of the trailer about ¼”. Can somebody post a pic?

Thanks Dhazard. I was planning on notching or cutting out the "edge trim" and mounting the clip flat on the aluminum trim. But I'm not quite sure what you mean by allowing the hinge overhang the hatch 1/4". Probably you mean the latch exending 1/4" beyond the hatch of the trailer? Or the clip extending 1/4" beyong the edge of the aluminum trim? The hatch hinge is overhanging the cabin/body by 1/4". Thanks a lot, I appreciate your response. John

John, over the side of the body to allow the rain to run off and not down the side of the trailer. Regards Dan

I'm sorry. I still don't get it. Cut off the outter edge of the trim and mount the latch clip flat on the trim? Thanks

John,

Can you post some photos of what you're working with? It might help if we can see it.

Sorry, I don't have a digital camera. Been meaning to get one but my sone will be up Thanksgiving and hopefully he'll bring his. Meantime, I think I'll use the dremel tool to cut out the outer edge of the aluminum trim and mount the clip on with rivets, then go for the latches themselves.
Thanks and if I mess it up, I'll have my son take a picture.
