I took the bulkheads back down and cut out the hatch notch. Glued and put the walls back up and started installing the spars.

I found my first major screw up, somehow I got off on the left side hinge spar. I didn't realize it until I was standing back and looking at the progress, I just didn't look right so I checked the measurement. Some how I must have measured the inside of a spar when I should have done the outside, was off about 4 inches! :?
Image
I took the double spar back out and had to cut the hatch gap some more to match the right side, looks ok now.
This Stanley 14 ounce dead blow hammer is a wonderful tool. For those not familiar with a dead blow hammer, they are filled with lead shot. When you strike an object, the hammer doesn't bounce back like a regular hammer does. Get one, you'll love it!

And last a shot of me tonight, just one blood blister on my left index finger, thanks to that dead blow hammer!. :R :R
Image
I used up some more of that oak wood I got for the spars, this thing is gonna be tuff! :R

:tipsy: :tipsy: :tipsy: Well Here's to ya!

5'2", Wow, cool. How do you plan on skining it? 4x8 sheets? Cutting the 8 to 5'2"? I'm having a hard time finding the 5x10 stuff... but I haven't looked all that hard just yet.

I'm thingking of using the 4x8 luan and topping it off with aluminum. I got a local quote for $250 for a 5x10 anodized w/ the protective plastic... just seams like alot of mula, I'd need 2 of em... ho'well that's way down the road, I might find something better in the mean time.

Thanks everyone for the complements

Mary, yep, I plan on using 4x8 stuff. That's the way I did the floor so far, I haven't seen any 5x10 stuff either.

By the looks of the way you supply your shop, we would work well together. Need to have some liquid refreshment from time to time so you can stand back and think about what to do next. I'm glad to see that I am not the only one that uses a mallet as a primary tool for my TD.

Im using 1/8" 5x5's I got got at HD for $7.00 each for the ceiling and roof. Don't know how that could be streched to 5' 2" though. Maybe we should have a drink and think about it. :guzzle:

So.... Skip.... do you use the Acetone or the Diesel fuel as a chaser for that Bacardi? Progress looking good. I'm all too familiar with what a deadblow can inflict on a finger, left index finger nail still grows a little different and it's been 3 years. :D Danny

Hehe, I was using Pepsi Cola for the chaser this night. I went over to Chip's house a couple weeks ago and I got to try the pickle juice first hand, I'll have to say that it was pretty good! :R

The acetone has been an experiment additive in my diesel fuel, aprox 2 ounces per 15 gallons supposed to help with the MPG. The other diesel stuff is just a cetane booster and cleaner. So far I can tell a little easier starting in the morning but I haven't had enuff time to make a judgment on the MPG yet. Not seen in the pic is my bio diesel experiment stuff, I've only made a few litters of it so far. I love experiments! :R
