I have sewed (sp) since was little but never worked on anything big. I did sew the curtains for the trailer out of dish towels. Not to hard. If we are going to have a quilting contest, I've done that too. Acouple of years ago I had a stack of old Levi's that I couldn't get into anymore or had worn out in the usual palces. I cut them up into 6" squares and sewed them together inside/outside to create a checkerboard look. THen I got some good warm flanel (a MANLY pattern) and put it together. It now is part of the trailer. A nice, warm blanket that I made, and I'm proud of it.

Don't worry, I started the thread. Let it wander where it may. Most often it acutally becomes more interesting :applause: :applause:
Have really enjoyed the responses. My Dad thought it was essential to do be reasonably proficient in a variety of skills.

If it's not broken, you're not trying hard enough.

Yep I can sew, cook, iron, and laundry. The week after I met my wife (then girlfriend) they had me sewing on her coronation dress, lots of hand beading took us about 3 months. Here is a picture of the shirt I built from the same material as in the tear.

I have two sister and two brothers. When we were young my brothers would ask my mom to sew on buttons, etc. She told them that with 5 kids and a dog to take care of they better learn to iron and sew their own buttons on.

My youngest brother is now a superintendent at a golf course and my other brother is a decorator. He does his own curtains and slipcovers for his clients.

My Mom was my home ec teacher. Never had to take it in school! In fact I just baked Christmas cookies last night. She taught me eveything I know!
Cooking, cleaning, sewing, laundry, etc. I guess that's why my wife likes me so much and keeps me around! .
I cut it three times and it's still too short!!

Home Ec was almost a requirement in middle school. The choices were either Home Ec or Band. Since I can't play anything except for a radio, I took Home Ec.

 My son was booted out of Home EEEek. Seems he sewed his fingers together (no blood). She and I went around till she insisted I teach him to sew if it was sew easy. Best student I had. Learned it faster than the girls. She was a primadona if there ever was one.

The girls sewed thier fingers together and no one threw them out. 8)

I never learned sewing. A few years ago, I tore a belt loop on an old pair of jeans. I stuck it back on with super glue! It worked for about a week, then I threw the jeans out.
Maybe if I think of a sewing machine as a power tool.....
