Things that don't fit anywhere else...

I watched an episode of Top Gear a while back. He admitted that he owned a LandCruiser Amazon. That's the regular LandCruiser to us.

I have a 4WD dodge 05, before that a TJ jeep. I remember going up to Sunshine ghost town, the road is dirt and full of chuck holes, some nice climbs. But I have never seen a Land Cruser, in the woods. Watching the rock climbs on TV I can't remember to many of them in any of the climbs, nor Toyota's for that matter. I had a girlfriend once, owned a Toyota, it was nice and I liked driving it. But, I would never put it in place's where my jeep would go. Jim G 8) 8)

This is my neighbor's rig. He has made it a point to teach his son that Jeeps are for girls to drive.

If you go to places where people rely on their vehicles for their lives, like the African bush or the Australian outback, it won't be Jeeps you'll see, it will be Land Cruisers and maybe a few Nissan Patrols. It could be that they're mistaken - but if so, wouldn't they still be stuck in the bush or the outback?

Rocky,
Looks like your neighbor spent a few dollars upgrading that Toyo. How would it preform right from the dealer?
This Jeep is sitting in my garage right now and it ain't for girls.
Bone stock, you better have some upper body strength to turn this thing.

That's me in the passenger seat explaining to my son what all the shifters sticking
out of the floor are for. It's on my project list after the teardrop is finished.

Rocky, What motor does that Land Cruiser have? We used to do a lot of engine swaps in those. We took out the six and put in small block Chevy's.

Don't know he already did an engine swap when he moved across the street. It doesn't look like the pic anymore, he got a good deal on a 454 so after he did that, on went the Dana 60's, on went the 44in tires. It was probably like having a stock Jeep because it too came with an inline 6. One thing he did say, the axles on old Land Cruisers are much stronger than an equivelant Jeep because they came stock with 1 ton axles (that's what he told me anyway).

He has shown me pics of an FJ90 (the current bodystyle Cruiser) on the trail. I was suprised how much articulation it had, bone stock. Toyota had 2 FJs to test drive on the trail at one of he Land Cruiser events. Initially he thought they were just street copies of the real FJ but suprised to find them very capable rigs.

He doesn't have a problem with the CJs and older. I he has his boy say that Jeeps are for girls just to rib his Jeep buddies. There were a few years after the CJ that aren't very desirable.

It's true what Andrew said, Land Cruisers, Land Rovers, and Nissan Patrols are widely used around the world. There are models that were never offered in the US. Only in the US, is the Jeep the prefered offroader.

I have a friend who has spent decades all over the world doing relief work. He says that we undersell the American Jeep. His view is that it is a much better rig than we are told, when compared to a Land Cruiser.

The availability of cars in other countries has more than a little to do with politics and policies.
