One for Ira - walmart workers sitting by the phone?

Things that don't fit anywhere else...

Maybe I'm missing something, if under the new system the "employee schedules are now available three weeks in advance", what does this do with workers sitting by the phone?

Leon, here's the deal:

Another example of Wal-Mart trying to squeeze every last penny out if its workers.

This basically refers to their cashiers, because as you know, there's never really anyone to help you on the WM floor in specific departments anyways--aside from electronics and one one or two other departments--because someone has to be there to open certain locked cases, mix paint, etc.

And as every normal person knows, the store usually only has one or two of these folks working in these departments anyway--while also quicktime-shifting them to other departments if they're actually seen not doing anything for 5 minutes, because there are no customers there to assist in the first place.

So with the cashiers, they want them to not be guaranteed a certain schedule. The "3 " thing you read in that article is pretty misleading, because as it is, most cashiers there have set schedules as it is. There's a small minoritywho don't mind losing a day of work a week, a few hours here or there, or having these hours shifted from week to week--because they find it EXCITING! They also probably only average 6 months of employment with the company anyway before they get fired or leave on their own.

NORMAL people want and NEED to know their work schedule--so they can arrange additional employment (many do), take care of children and spousal responsibilities (most do), and be able to make plans...knwoing their days off..so they can live a normal life.

But this is too much for Wal-Mart to ponder, and they now want to go to a system where at a manager's whim--and we all know how smart Wal-Mart managers are, RIGHT!?--a cashier will get several days notice, maybe ONE day, of whether to come into work.

It's the most disgusting, ridiculous concept ever conceived. And it's not just selfish--it's STUPID.

Prices will not go down one penny because of this, you will NOT be better served as a customer, and as I've said a million times before about this company, it is another example of illegal employment practices that the f*cking state and federal regulatory agencies simply decide to ignore.

Thank GOD the Democrats are in power now--because this sh** IS going to stop.

"Clark said employee schedules are now available three weeks in advance, while under old system, schedules were posted two to three weeks in advance."
So there's a difference? I'm wondering if this isn't a typo and should read "are now available three days in advance..."

Yep.

You'll lose. WalMart isn't even on their radar and they couldn't care less.
By the way--how many Libertarians you got in there? Zero?

I'll type slowly and use small words so you will finally get it through your head.

I... am... not... a... member... of... the... Libertarian... Party.

I... am... a... Libertarian... in... philosophy... only.

I... vote... the... issues... not... any... party.

Philosophy was probably too big a word -

I... merely... like... Libertarian... ideas.

There. Get it now?

Off the top of my head I'd say it's because we have too much integrity to go into politics. I considered it once, but soon realized I'd have to blow dead goats on live television for five years afterwards just to get my self-respect back...
I was off for 2 weeks over xmas and I didn't have one single problem with not being at work. My blood pressure was 105/60 for 2 weeks - I return to work and within 3 days its 138/85.

I retire in a year and a half - if I live that long...
The hell with this - I'm running for congress too!

Think about the goats... :frightened:

You guys are being a little hard on Ira, now don't ya think?:)

We all know Ira has Democratic blood flowing through his warm weather veins.

We should give all the Dem's the benefit of say 100 days to see if they are
following their words with deeds.

Myself Like Rich and Joseph ... I don't hold out much hope. :)

K streets money will cloud the minds of the Dem's as it did the Repub's.
Just a matter of time.

Now as far as Ira's assertion that
Thank GOD the Democrats are in

power now--because this sh** IS going to stop.

Rest assured that Charlie Rangel and the other powerful committee
chairmen bulls will make it tough for the Pres and VP as well as the
industrial complex to do business as usual. Maybe the corporations should
be more concerned with how they do business as well? Charlie and the
others have trade changes in mind as well.

My fiscally conservative mind set says we needed some checks on the run
away power of the ever spending and usurping of constitutional rights by
the Bush administration.

The Dem's have a sliver of time to show they can do what Ira may hope
will be the outcome. For me bridling the imperial Presidency is good
enough for now. We will see if the legislative branch will take back and use
its rightful duties and powers. I say give um at least 100 days, then
evaluate.

Anyone who pins his hopes on politicians to make things better is a fool - the only ones they make things better for are themselves. The best we can hope for is to reign them in enough to slow the continual eroding of the Constitution by all three branches of government. I hold no hope whatsoever of restoring the Federal Government to its original Constitutional limitations.

Well, most of the star eyed newbie first timer politicians go to Wash-DC
thinking the place is a cesspool. They get there and after the money flows
from K street and they figure out all the perks of the NON-job they signed uP
for they come out knowing it was a jacuzzi they were in while in Wash-DC.

Sometimes they would be called and they drove to work and as soon as they got there, they were sent home - not getting to work at all. Walmart got so much flack for this kind of employee abuse that they backed down. This sounds like the same old sh**.

I must have had it good with the government - If I was on call I got paid for it, and if I had to go in (to reset an alarm or something) I got 2 hours minimum pay. Most of the time if we had to be on call in case a test firing went off, we sat in the office getting paid, playing cards or watching TV. If the test scrubbed, we went home. I guess it comes down to accepting the terms if you want to work there, or going to McDonalds or elsewhere if you don't.
