Time To Glue And Screw The Walls To The Floor...Question?

Postby sandman » Wed Jan 31, 2007 3:16 am

Hey Guys,

I am slowly making some progress on my teardrop/cycle hauler. I am ready to finally glue and screw the walls to the floor. Just wanted to find out what you teardrop pros use to glue the walls up. I have Liquid Nails Heavy Duty Construction Adhesive, Gorilla Glue, or Titebond III as my choices. What would you use to ensure the best install??

...with screws in use, they would all probably work but the Liquid Nails product, if you are coming down over the steel frame would probably be my first choice...

I agree with MJ on that one, Liquid nails. 8) Jim G

I would think epoxy would be the best, but also the most expensive and the most trouble. With that said, I used Titebond II and the walls have not fallen off yet.

Might also depend on how you attach the side wall to the floor. I used screws and TB III. This is how I did it.

I used Titebond III, BUT if my tube of Liquid Nails was not half dried up I would have used it.

I hate trying to seal those tubes back up :fb !!

Just drive a 2" screw into the open end. When you need it open, just back out the screw.

Thanks for the replies everyone. Liquid Nails it is then. I bought two tubes of it and was hoping it would work. About to get those walls glued up. I now know what Teardrop time is...lol. It takes forever to build one if you're slow like me. I have to think and re-think everything before actually doing it.

I have received all my light fixtures and just order my fuse panel/converter to run all my electrical.

A large electrical wire-nut (grey) works even better to seal open caulk tubes. 8)

Well I have play Dr gloves so when I finished I just put a finger over the end, and flipped the glove off and on to the glue. Little finger works great and the glue keeps it on. 8)

Well, it looks like I am committed to build the Teardrop now. I just glued and screwed up my first wall to the floor. My hands were shaking while I was applying the bead of Liquid Nails to the floor. There was no turning back so I just went with it and installed my first wall permanently. Feels strange knowing I can't remove it now. :) The install went without a hitch. I put several braces on it to keep it square and installed a few roof spars to hold it all together. Once the liquid nails has cured, I will be gluing up wall number two tonight. I am on my way!!!
