Explorer Problem..

Explorer Problem..

I am having a problem with my Windows Explorer. :x When ever I klik on a link it opens in a new window. So far so good. BUT... when I klik on the close button to close the second window, it closes everything... the whole explorer shuts down. It's getting to be a real Pain in the rectum, and I can't seem to fix it. I even went so far as to restore from as far back as Sept. last year but it didn't fix it. :?

All right all you Window Guru's ... Got any suggestions??? I would hate like hell to have to reformat and reinstall......

Offhand I'd say it's a setting, which one..?????

I thought you were talking about a Ford Explorer...that I probably coulda helped ya with. :lol: :lol:

John,

It is not opening a new window, it is opening a new tab- just like firefox. If you look just above the top of the frame you will see the website title and when you move your mouse over it the little red x should show up.

No, it is opening a new window... There is a setting somewhere... can't find it right now that gives you the option to open a link in a new window.... The trouble is, if I klik on the "close button of the new window, it closes both the new window and the original window, thus closing my explorer. This just started happening in the last week or so, I thought by restoring my OS to an earlier date it would correct this glitch ,but it didn't.

John, are you absolutely sure it isn't TABS in the new version of IE7..................................... 8)

John... I am assuming you are running Windows XP?

Have you tried going up to any open folder's toolbar and click on the following:
Tools/Folder Options/Defaults
If that doesn't work, I think I would just do a "Repair Install" of Windows from your Windows disk.
(Be sure to back up things like your favorites and Outlook Express email addresses first).

Yep... I use Firefox and Maxthon... Have not used IE in years! :thumbsup:

PS: Maxthon (IE2) had tabs long before anyone else... Cool!

I agree about the Google Toolbar... yuk! I like my browser to be as lean and small as possible taking up my valuable screen real estate. Firefox is good. I still like Maxthon the best though. Since I run two monitors, I just use both at the same time... one on each monitor! :thumbsup:

I resisted going to IE as long as I could. After awhile Netscape was starting to bug me with it's lack of compatability on different websites. I've been using IE for about 5 years now without too many problems.

At work they, migrated to Macs (again) in the factory so they installed Firefox on the remaining PCs also. They did something to the settings on the public terminals so now IE doesn't go outside but Firefox does. I've been using Firefox for a few weeks and I kinda like it.

Yes, the new IE has tabbed browsing and stuff (MS had to play catch up) but Firefox seems to have a better feel.
