I have been wondering how do make a lock .... and this idea seems perfect.

Rob, Am i right thinking that the strap is to wrap around the inside handle in some way to hold the pin in place, or is the pin snug enough and the strap is just a handle of sortsImage

Hi Steve,

The strap is just to make it easy to hold the pin/remove the pin in the dark from the lock...a handle of sorts.

The pin is just slightly snug in the hole.
The hole is drilled through the front, and back of the steel case, and into the wood behind it by another 1/2".
Once inserted, the pin won't fall out.

These pictures may explain it better than I can...

Anybody know what I made the pin out of?

(First hint is RR...)
