Hi and welcome from another newbie. We don't have a td yet but will as soon and we can get one built. We are not building it, we ordered it and are awaiting it's joyous birth. There is going to be a gathering here in OK. at Beavers Bend State Park in SE OK. on March 30 - April 1. We are going down to meet everyone and look at all the td's and thought you might be able to come too.

I, too, want to thank you for serving. I have a son who is retired from the Navy.

Good luck on your build and we hope to meet you and your family soon.

OH WOW, that sounds like a great time, unfortunately I've already made plans to be in Lawrence, KS that weekend, :x  which is 2.5 hrs in the opposite direction your talking about. Dang, I wish I could make it, that sounds like a lot of fun. Maybe if I'm lucky someone will take a lot of pictures and post them on here.. Thank you again for the invitation. If something like this comes along again I'd love to hear about it so I could make plans to attend.

Mule if you keep an eye on the South Central and the North Central forums you will find most of the gatherings in our area. We tend to get together a bunch. Minden ITGII is coming in June and I hope you will try to make it. Bunch of teardrops going to be there. Look in the National forum. ;)

Why??

Postby oldwing » Fri Mar 30, 2007 4:35 pm

Mule says: "I've told my wife, brother, and a few friends about my idea, all seemed to roll their eyes and ask "Why"? "

I hesitate to make my first post in someone else's thread, but this one really struck a chord with me.

I've gotten the "why" question with my canoe, when I rebuilt my (old) goldwing, when I built the sunroom for my house, half of my tools, and you get the drift. It's because you need to. Some people get that, and many of them are on this forum. Most will never get it, and there's just no use trying.

Been building, and explaining, for a bunch of years, a former Marine myself (MCB 29P), just haven't made a teardrop yet...

BTW, and not secondarily, thank you for your service.

MuleMarine, check out the guy by the name of KeithB here on the forum. He also lives in Wichi-titty and has a build in progress. I live in Topeka and am in the middle of my 2nd build now. Let me know if you want to see my campers.......... be more than happy to show you.

Welcome Mule
Sounds like you want to own a teardrop, go for it and enjoy. I started mine last September and I am still working on it and enjoying doing it.

Well put, and Semper Fi brother! I know that once I start the TD family and friends will be bringing everyone and their dog over to check out the progress. If they're not even the slightest bit claustrophobic I bet I'll be receiving a phone call inquiring on the fancy TD I got sitting in my driveway !

I've got about 1/2 my suspected budget saved at this time, I've been looking for a decent trailer. Another buddy of mine who is in the preliminary stages stumbled upon a good trailer while out for a walk w/ his wife. Stole the entire rig for $50. I'm hoping to stumble upon something like that, then replace whatever is needed.

I recently purchased plans for a 10' Comet by Kevin Hauser. He has written several very comprehensive books, including build plans, and the works. I highly recommend his literature to anyone interested. I like the Comet because it seems to blend the older retro appeal, with the modernism of practicality (which I suppose isn't too modern....), anyway, I'll make sure to take lots of pics and ask lots of questions when the time comes.

Thanks for the info on KiethB, I'll see if I can hunt him down!
