I hesitate to make my first post in someone else's thread, but this one really struck a chord with me.
I've gotten the "why" question with my canoe, when I rebuilt my (old) goldwing, when I built the sunroom for my house, half of my tools, and you get the drift. It's because you need to. Some people get that, and many of them are on this forum. Most will never get it, and there's just no use trying.
Been building, and explaining, for a bunch of years, a former Marine myself (MCB 29P), just haven't made a teardrop yet...
BTW, and not secondarily, thank you for your service.

Well put, and Semper Fi brother! I know that once I start the TD family and friends will be bringing everyone and their dog over to check out the progress. If they're not even the slightest bit claustrophobic I bet I'll be receiving a phone call inquiring on the fancy TD I got sitting in my driveway !
I've got about 1/2 my suspected budget saved at this time, I've been looking for a decent trailer. Another buddy of mine who is in the preliminary stages stumbled upon a good trailer while out for a walk w/ his wife. Stole the entire rig for $50. I'm hoping to stumble upon something like that, then replace whatever is needed.
I recently purchased plans for a 10' Comet by Kevin Hauser. He has written several very comprehensive books, including build plans, and the works. I highly recommend his literature to anyone interested. I like the Comet because it seems to blend the older retro appeal, with the modernism of practicality (which I suppose isn't too modern....), anyway, I'll make sure to take lots of pics and ask lots of questions when the time comes.
Thanks for the info on KiethB, I'll see if I can hunt him down!
