Regarding Ira's post!

Yeah--let's go back to the 60s:

Legal discrimination and segregation.

Now we just have all of the "minorities" ... and if you happen to be a regular white person..... well, you are to blame ...

Women stuck in the house and not able to work professionally.

Well... my mom didn't have a "profession" ... lol, she was just "my mom" .... she didn't have an outside job! I mean, she was just my mom!!!

Real war plus the Cold War.

Yeah, now we just got a couple of "hot" wars.... and more to come.... you are joking about this.... right?? Nice to know that things are much better now! ... lol!

Bomb drills in school where kids had to jump under the desk and lived with the fear of nuclear annihilation.

[bNice that we don't have those fears now!! (lol!) ]Never had that in my school in Calif.... where you from? Lol, " duck and cover!! Run mo fo run!!

Polluted waters that we all drank and business and government lied to us about it.

Sure glad that's all fixed!

WHICH 60S ARE WE TALKING ABOUT HERE!?

I am apparently seeing the 60's a little different than you!

Sorry to go overboard, but there's nothing that touches my buttons more than anyone claiming that "their" era was better than others, and that life was better "back then."

Have I "touched your buttons??" .... lol, you sure have "touched" mine!!

Yeah, it's nostalgic to visit, but to say it was as a better time to live just ain't necessarily true.

Just how old are you? Do you really have a clue as to how much different it used to be? Agreed..... it was not "perfect" ... but it sure was a lot better than it is now!!

Hey.... I'm tired of reviewing this to make sure it's "just right" ...... so here it comes...... ready or not!!! 8)

There's good and bad in all of our eras. I think the point here is that things were just a bit simpler and sure we had problems. I grew up in the 40s and 50s and I can remember so many good things because it was a much simpler lifestyle and I wasn't subjected to the stinking media with all their negative issues. When I acted up as a kid, my Dad would slap the s@#t out of me regardless of where we were. I deserved it and no one reported my Dad for doing it either. I ate dirt, threw rocks, chewed paint, played with chemicals and never had a bad reaction and never put anyone's eyes out either. Today, I look at our situation, hang my head and cry for the youth of this country and the legacy we are leaving them.
Let's take the kids camping, enjoy the country side, play simple games with them, leave the cells and Ipods at home, get back to basics, teach them courtesy and respect - yeah, let's go back in time - it's about time!

On the subject of 'best' music, it's necessary to recognise that just because some music was playing when you first fell in love, first rebelled against your parents, first got drunk, first got laid or first whatever, doesn't mean it's better music, it just means it's more important to you........

Yes I remember the 60s VERY well. 2Year long camping trip. Free fireworks display almost every night. Free helicopter rides ( Mine was to a hospital). And to top it off when you thought it could not get any worse you went home. Only to be called names, spit upon, denied the jobs you deserved.
Yes those were the good old days.

Sierrajack, you got a good idea there........BUT, I guess there are several laws that wouldn't let that happen, We have just about put ourself out of business with too many rules and laws........ and nobody knows how to undo any of them. And now they are talking about running out of fresh water in like 20 years..........but, to late to undo it now....... I'm goin camping in 4 days. ;)

I spent all morning trying to think of some kind of reply to you and all the others. Seems that a few put a shame on us all.

When a soldier goes to war the honor of a country is at stake at home with those who do not serve as much as with those who serve.

Some do not understand that even now.

Thank you for being there then and now.thumbsup:

Ohhhh...sorry I didn't see this sooner!!!

Better for YOU, maybe. But not for a whole lot of OTHER people!!!

Separate restrooms for blacks and whites?

The right to deny service to minorities in restaurants and hotels?

No voting rights?

Your belief that moms should just be "moms," depite what they REALLY want to do with their lives?

Duck and cover isn't a real thing? I'm 50, and everyone I know went through these drills. You didn't? No, we DON'T have these immediate nuclear fears that we did in the past. Not saying the danger isn't still out there, what with terrorism and all, but it ain't the same. This was an everyday thing we were taught to fear and think about EVERY DAY. As a mattter of fact, in those days, every basement of every building (in New York) had a bomb shelter, and the test alarm went off EVERY day at noon to assure the alarms were working.

Like I said, go through history and study it--past eras ALWAYS suck when compared to the ones that followed. None of us should feel so special as to think that our time was better, that we accomplished more, or that we were "better" people than the generations to come.

It's not just self-serving ego to feel this way, it's just not true.

And it's revisionist history.
Here we go again!

Well..... yes, to be honest, it was (... or seemed) to be better for me. Being raised in the mountains of SoCal I was not exposed to what went on in the South.

I must clearify: "MOMS" .... NOT WOMEN who choose not to be moms and persue careers... I think MOMS should raise their children!

So I'll just leave it at that.... JMHO

First thing: If I remember correctly this was suppose to be a light hearted travel back to the 60's for the music & TV programs, nothing else.
That said, I don't get this at all. Who said women were stuck in the home in the 60's?
I clearly remember my Mom taking me to day care and elementary school before she went to work. My Mom worked all my childhood and beyond as a school Pastry Cook etc and we were a family of five. My dad worked full time for Safeway and did two part time jobs in the evenings. The choice to work or not was out there and I guess it depended on the dynamics of your particular household and not some social stigma that some perceive. My Mother in Law is another example she has worked all her adult life and at 85 she still works 32 hours a week by choice. Danny

I have only been here for a short time, but it seems this did go down hill pretty quick. As I remember I enjoyed the 60's a lot more than say the 90's or anytime there after , but thats not to say it was great , or that it was better for everybody, The leaders of this country have made mistakes , and so have I , and some of you folks may have made one or two yourself. But, if we can't put a little note on here and at least act like something, it is worse than I thought.

I grew up and came of age during the 60's and I sure did enjoy them BUT I also enjoyed the 70's(except disco), the 80's, the 90's and now the 00's...I guess I just enjoy a good time...whenever it occurs...good stuff...bad stuff...it's all just stuff and happens in all times...don't dwell on the bad and surely enjoy the good...it's all good thataway...........

I'm with Ira on this one! When I think of the 60's, the ony thing that comes to mind is the year I spent in VietNam. I made it through that year but it's not something I'd like to relive!
