martha24 wrote:Doug, I'll have to correct you on the part where dogs become door stops, at least in my house the gravitational pull seems to put my dog right where we walk and can be easily tripped over. Sometimes when we step over her it seems to break the vortex and she is no longer on the ground right in mid process of stepping over her and we get a second chance to get snagged in the gravitational pull and end up on the floor ourselves.![]()
Of course if we were to end up on the floor we wouldn't be laughing.
More than one person has just about killed themselves this way. Its especially dangerous when it happens in the hall in the dark and the dog can't easily be seen.

Martha--not to hijack this very important thread, but I think what you have identified is something I have been studying in my dog for quite some time. I am not sure how much the gravitational vortexes influence the K-9 trait you mention. I think it is more along the lines of doggie ESP. I have noted that my dog has the incredible talent to know exactly where I will need to step or the direction I will need to walk with something heavy in my hands approximately eight seconds in advance. He will always be in the perfect spot eight seconds before I get there there for me to trip over or have to coax to move out of the way.
They are either pyschic, or they use their doggie hypno-rays to influence your path of movement. Not sure which, but I don't think it is the gravity influence.
I know for certain, though, that dog hair is affected by this heavy gravity thing as it seems to pull my dog's hair out by the pound. I just can't figure out why I am bald and he isn't!
