I use Tracfone like Arne, as I don't need a bunch of minutes. I get the year "contract" which is only minutes that are good for a year and the year time is added from your expiration time on the phone. I always do it when there is a promo and either get an extra 100 minutes or double time or something like that above the standard 150 minutes. I now have 1150 minutes that are good to 5/18/08. I renewed it in Feb. For $100 I have a cell phone for a year, as I only use it when I travel or for emergencies and about the only people who have my number are my elderly parents and my two grown children. If they need to reach me when I'm not at home they can, but I always keep the calls short.
Would have been a great phone for children to use when they go to school events or out with friends and need to call home.

Boy I can second that. I would love to have had cells when my children were teens. Most of the grandchildren all have their own which they pay for. They can't say "sorry I didn't call" when late. 8)

I have Sprint and have only had trouble with Mikes service. A few calls and some down home information put an end to those. And asking for US based personnel.

PS I average 1400 to 1800 Sprint to Sprint minutes a month. 8) Get my money's worth.

My son in the Air Force had Sprint in Texas and loved it. He is now out of South Dakota and Sprint doesn't have service there, in fact there are only a a couple of choices. Of those choices the best option is Verizon which is more espenisve than others available in other parts of the country. The other one charged a monthly fee with taxes which came to $8 a month to put his phone on hold when the Air Force sent him over seas for temporary duty. At least Verizon only has a small one time fee & the phone can be put on hold for up to a year.
With the military if you get sent to a new base where there is no cell service, the contract is ended with no early termination fees. That's what happened with my son & Sprint.

My nephews were able to keep their service because the one in Irag had a Nextel and my sister got an overseas plans. It was certainly great for his family to hear from him.

Well I have no one else to die who owns a phone so this will never have to be seen again. I thank you for your statement and welcome. I have learned a lesson here and try not to repeat what happened. I've been burnt and will not touch that again. I am getting older and wiser.
Long time researching the abandoned South Pennsylvania Railroad along the Pennsylvania Turnpike. God will guide me. As he has done so in the past. southpennrailroad.com
