C/F, I have a scooter, a Honda Silverwing 600cc...

Are scooters popular in Finland?... seems like the riding season might be short... but your daylight hours are long... what time does the sun set? about 11.00 p.m.?

Here, if I see one scooter a week that is about it.. they are a bit more popular now that gas prices are rising..

Hi Arne and greeting from a Summery Finland... Yes Scooters and Mopeds are very popular here from Vespa to Keeway and Peugeot and was it Yamaha. I even get the scooter fever when the weather is nice as
it is now..

Here you go Arne.. You were not far off on your time of sunset.. ;) Kes. stands for Kesäkuu - which is June but the (direct translation from it is):
Kesä which means summer and Kuu is Moon. So I guess its Summer Moon being very direct.. ;)

I was in Copenhagen one summer.. about 3.30 in the morning, I thought someone had turned on the light.. it was the sun rising...

We go to bed in the dark... Is it difficult for Finnish citizens to go to bed (to sleep/g/) when there is still daylight? Do you use heavy curtains to make the room dark?

I think about this when I read about Alaska, where in mid-summer, the sun barely dips below the horizon and it never gets dark.... but then, I don't know how they stand the long winter nights where it hardly gets light.... I think in winter in Alaska, I could develop a significant alcohol drinking problem.. I need my sun.

So, I guess if I ever visit Finland, it should be in the late spring, or early fall....

Thank you for the information.

Dear Friend Arne

I guess we can say that we are accustomed to the daylight in the night - It feels great to us due to the long and dark winters .. this period is very short here so it is sort of a treat for everyone here..

But for people visiting Sweden, Finland and Norway or even Denmark it is a strange event..

On your next trip please come to Finland.. Your always welcome or anyone else for that matter..

You,ll be able to sleep normally as well, we do have thicker curtains available as well .. Summer is the Best time of Year to Come to Scandinavia in General.

Best regards
Heikki and Family ;)

to Our friend Arne and who else may be interested.. time is now 23:15 here in Finland. I went out and took a couple of photos with no flash used.

Its just a normal Digi. Camera.

Here is just a few photos to show how light it is here..in a few weeks it will be even lighter outside around the 20th. The photos are taken to the West of our home. But they should be in the order of bottom to top order.
in just a few minutes apart.. thats about the darkest it will get here for the night. And it will get lighter again for the day in about 2.5 hrs from now. Way up North on the top of Finland, Swden and Norway its even lighter out at this moment. The photos there are really interesting.

Heikki, some of those houses look very small (on the left side)... are they houses or cottages?

We are that light about 8.30 at night.
