Quite a few years ago, I had read an article in Backpacker Magazine about Petit Jean SP and had wild dreams about how beautiful it would be. In August of '05... Anna, Maggie and I made our way toward the park. We hit Hwy. 154 heading East off of Hwy. 7 and I thought, "You've got to be kidding me!!! Where are all these mountains and pine trees at!?!?!". I thought I had been dooped or took the wrong road.
After about 12 miles of flat, winding roads (and me getting mad), I see a Petit Jean sign............ no sooner than I see it, the road goes straight up and it's a 2-mile roller coaster ride to the park.
I couldn't believe what a change in scenery it was!! There is so much hiking to do, it's not even funny. The Mather Lodge has a resturant that serves everybody and is
cheep cheep. It overlooks a HUGE valley and there are Hummingbird feeders on the deck that will keep you entertained all day long!!
This is a "MUST DO" park even if it's not for a TD gathering
