It's time for a new Generic Standy Design...

General Discussion about almost anything Teardrop or camping related

:o

Actually, there's not room for all that in this box. I can't go any higher on the counters (they're at 36" from the drop floor now) or my wife won't be able to use them. So the refrigerator "just" fits under the counter with no room to spare. Also there's a section of floor in front of the refrgerator that I can't drop because of the frame so having the stove there would be uncomfortable.

The toilet could go forwad (like Steve's) but I can't make it any wider or you won't be able to get into the streetside dinette (unless I make the table shorter, then I need a filler piece, and so it goes).

In reality I would like the refrigerator but I doubt I'll install a cooker; I rather use a portable since we'd like to be outside more. The sink is a toss-up...still thinking about it.

I just can't bring myself to use all the space a comfortably large toilet room takes up in a small trailer and for an area that gets so little use. My wife and I lived on a boat then spent four years in the cab of a semi truck together so what I've sketched out will work ok for us if not others. I'm still thinking of a shower using the drop floor though!

Sorry, not a COOL CAD Dude , so we'll have to all suffer the indignities of my humble pencil drawings.. Bunks with cargo nets for the personal stuff ... storage drawers below for more stuff
fold out table with enough room for two comfy folding chairs ...dinette.

Plenty of room for the igloo, Mr. coffee, a 2 burner unit , cups , dishes , food etc... pantry on top ... could be sit down or stand up shower/toilet combo , that seems to be the best use of space...

GPW... With your professional drawing and design skills you don't need to bother with a CAD program... That sure looks good.

I feel like everyone' else's drawings are just so NEAT !!!

Figured out to scale the different units out for personal size(I'm 6'3" 235lbs), then add them up..6' Wide should do it...12'-15' should allow enough room for bunks , and a little room to mill around and get dressed, or set up a couple chairs..fold down the table for dinner...

My kitchen setup is a bit basic, but should be able to hold all the stuff and give a little room for cooking/sandwich making...A good Igloo, will do fine for an icebox, large block ice will last a pretty long time in a good cooler... dishes will be done in a bucket , outside.... better if it's raining...

had the idea of putting the vent over the bathroom instead of the more centered location , thereby acting to remove any "offensive " fumes/odors. and venting the entire trailer...

Still have to make a place for a TV and a fan...Guess the AC will have to be side mounted in an optimum location ...worked well on the Big Bugout...

I have one BIG question...are we designing a TTT/standy or a large bug-out trailer...campin' and buggin' out require different things...while camping you might not need provisions for a kitchen sink but for a bug-out unit, a kitchen sink and more are needed....

I agree with Jack. Mike was looking for a Benrot/Standy with extras in a compact format.

If I was bugging out I don't think I would want what he is building.

Maybe I am wrong too?

GPW has a great concept if you don't mind bunks. Nice art too! Might be too boxie?

Brick's idea might be right on to what most would build.

Room for a sink , along side the Bathroom... all the plumbing(?) on a common chase wall... and a mirror too , and a coat hook ...
MJ , you know my motivations... ;) Fashion is not high on the list of necessary priorities... schmaybe in Cal , where Fashion statements during earthquake/forest fire evacuations are a priority... boxy ??? Indeed ...

Bunks ... Great for us old folks ... plenty of space , enough room for anything that probably won't happen ...

Re: It's time for a new Generic Standy Design...

Why a new design? If a teardrop is not comfortable enough, you might want something larger. If you live east of the Missippi, rain happens, usually on the weekend while you are camping. If you are camping rustic, you might want to bring your own shower. And if mother nature calls in the middle of the night, you don't want to trek down to the outhouse or bathhouse. Some people are talking about camping longer than a weekend. Some of them want more than a TD. Some people want a tiny trailer to flee hurricanes etc. So with all that in mind, let's see what we as a group can come up with...

Here's a couple requirements I think we should include.

Ability to stand up inside it.
Ability to cook inside
Ability to go potty inside
Ability to take a shower inside
Ability to use a bolt together trailer
Ability to sit and eat inside
Simple construction
Lightweight
Can be towed with a medium sized car
Adequate storage

Yes, we are packing 10 pounds of RV type stuff into a 5 pound trailer, and there will have to be some tradeoffs as we proceed into the design. But hey, isn't that what makes it fun?

So what did I miss?

Mike...

Actually its already available.... It's called a Motor Home...

GPW,

You don't need a CAD system. Your pencil and paper is all you need. Awsome looking drawings... And this one describes the hurricane evacuation trailer perfectly...

The quality is remembered long after the price is forgotten, so build your teardrop with the best materials...

Hmmm... I took the liberty of flipping GPW's nice rendering...
And, ya kinda end up with what I was trying to show with my hack job of Mikes's floorplan of "A". Only ---
I think you could use a dropped floor and lower and round off the rear profile quite a bit?

Image
GPW's drawing sure shows it better than I did... Cool rendering!
