I wasn't going to give you the satisfaction of a response Geron, but that was a dumb, mean, and ignorant thing to say. I know there is a lot of fun, and joking around on the forum, but that was inappropriate.

You might be right about the girl causing it though. The horizontal cha cha may have left blood residue that triggered an attack.

...absolutely 110% agreed....and in a totally generic sense...ANYONE who wears their feelings on their sleeve will have some problems around here...so, to everyone out there, hangout, loosen/lighten up, have fun and don't take anything anyone sez very seriously...unless it is about TD's and camping.......

TK, I would have to agree with Miriam. I just took it as a generic lighthearted joke, especially with his choice of emoticons. This is where sometimes difficulties or misunderstandings can arise with just the written word & people never having actually met.

Was thoroughly and completely stated in jest!! Not a nanospeck of misogyny allowed anywhere even close to my thought systems. Since it can be interpreted into that response (even said jokingly) I humbly claim and admit all your evaluations of my comment.

Just read an excellent book, The Forgotten Desert Mothers, sayings, lives, and stories of early Christian Women by Laura Swan which emphasizes the significant role of women in the development of early Christianity and their later exclusion from leadership by a patriarchal leadership. A regretful development in history.

I thought of a PM but felt the forum deserved to hear my apology and understand my deep regret. I have fought such feelings toward women in society and the Christian faith now for more than 40 years. I am deeply embarrassed and apologize profusely.

I have a somewhat different take on the "Grizzly-boy" story.

In all honesty, it doesn't matter to me if the female companion in some way contributed to or provoked the attack. What Grizzly-boy was doing was stupid. His actions were uninformed and not based on any actual knowledge of bears. His companion (we need an approporiate designation for her here, how about "Second Course"?) bought into his nonsense. As such, she's responsible for her own actions as well.

For me, they both deserve Darwin Awards.

In modern society you can get away with dumb behavior, you can even make a good living off it (Jim Carey comes to mind here). People tend to act as though life in modern society is "real life". A visit to a harsher environment, the Arctic, Antarctic or other desert for instance, demonstrates that's wrong. Even the people that know what they are doing sometimes die from the weather alone in those locatons. The lesson: we are part of nature, but our personal survival is not part of nature's equation. Gulf Coast residents could no doubt back that accessment up.

So Grizzly-boy and Second Course got the harshest of lessons, the one where you don't get to utilize what you just learned. But it's really no different than that of someone we all hold in scorn, the guy that says, "Hold my beer. Watch this". Anybody made a movie about that guy yet?

MB--to me, what makes this so mind-boggling is I don't see any SCIENCE in what he was doing. I got reamed here for being a little less than sensitive about what happened to the Crocodile Hunter, because this wasn't environmentalism on any level:

As far as Geron goes, I don't think in a million years he meant anything mean by that. Just people having different senses of humor and not everyone seeing the joke.

I myself deal with this issue on a weekly if not daily basis here.

The weird thing is, I thought the bear-man-woman love triangle theory was a joke to BEGIN with! And I think Geron thought the same thing and was just keeping the joke going.

Rented this dvd on accident Friday sat thru about 1/2 of it and took it out.
I saw a lonely anti social guy who would have been happier born about 2 centuries earlied. Was he a nut , was he genuinely concerned anout the bears eco system. Who knows ?

In defense of the boys who was it that drug home that apple anyway?

To me, all he accomplished was giving a Bear a last meal. All his efforts & crazy beliefs to conserve and save the bear population/ecosystem ended with the death of a bear. Which is the saddest part of all.

It was a fascinating show though. It leaves you with Very mixed emotions.

I had heard about this quack before he got ett and my first thought then was 'he will be dinner one day'. You don't play with fire without getting burned eventually and grizzlies are more dangerous than fire cause they decide what they are going to consume.
That he got them to 'accept' him I think was just foolish thinking on his part, tolerating he was more likely what it was then when he added another person to it the toleration level zeroed out.
Or maybe they figured by himself he wasn't much of a meal but when the second was added the table was set.
The actual video of them getting munched is cool tho.

I have worked in wildlife rehab. The goal in rehab is to get that animal back to health as quickly as possible & with as little human interaction as possible so it can return back into the wild a wild animal. I have seen lots of Grizzly Boy wannabe's - people wanting to domesticate wild animals because they are "so cute & cuddly". Wild animals should be left to be wild. They are not pets waiting to be domesticated by the "right" person. I appreciate that Grizzly Boy's heart was in the right place in that he wanted to help the bears, but I so disagree with the way he did it. He invaded the home of an animal that wanted nothing to do with him or any other human. He also gave them & their actions human ideas & human emotions when they are not human at all. He had no respect for them. And if I remember right, the bear who killed them was later killed by the park rangers. So much for helping that bear! We need to respect wildlife & allow them to be who they are in their own world instead of trying to place our agendas on them to further ourselves. We need to respect them as who they are, not who we want them to be!

OK, now I'll step off my soap box!
