Our Car Failed Inspection - Ideas On This

Postby Classic Finn » Tue Jun 26, 2007 2:22 pm

Dear friends

I went over to our inspection officials for the yearly inspection...for our car. All good except...

It failed due to the fact that emissions were too high .. the gentleman stated it was fine at normal idle....

but after that it is too high..

I have the emissions report here so I can translate the numbers if anyone on the forum here is a specialist on emissions..

Can anyone tell me or lead me to what may be wrong? I know the emission control thing is very strict here. The inpsector said somthing to the order of that I need to have an adjustment done? Meaning what?

It does have a catalytic converter... so if its that .. that is going to be expensive here..

I have a month to have it worked out... and back to reinspection.

Classic Finn ;)

Move to Florida--no emissions or ANY inspections at all.

So driving here on the highway is FUN!!!

It's a Republican thing meant to protect big business--nothing to do with the little guy--but the little guy benefits now and then too from these policies.
Here we go again!

I'm not sure what kind of car it is or what controls it has, but the biggest reason for a car to fail a test is the O2 sensor. As they get old the band that they operate in changes and they are less able to control the system. That type of failure generally does not show up as an error in the computer like a bad TPS sensor or things like that. A bad injector can give an indication of the system running lean causing it to go rich and making the car run high emissions. What are the indications that it is giving? what kind of car, and what emission controls does it have?

 mmmmmmmmmmmm...down here, the yeraly inspection takes 10 bucks and 10 minutes...whichever occurs first...providing you know who to take it to...although I have no idea, I vote for the O2 sensor as a likely culprit....sheeeeesh, remind me to never move to a place controlled by the EU (or California)
...I have come to believe that, conflict resolution, through violence, is never acceptable.....................mj

Leon the readings are the following. It has codes as in chemistry .. :?

So here it says: Motor running in parking or idle..
Co percentage 0.05 measeured / Allowed 0.50 / Measured 5.61 allowed percentage 0.30 %

Hc percentage 96 Allowed 100/Measured 208 Allowed unit 100 ppm

Co2 Measured 14.80/Allowed 5.00/Measured 0.06/ Allowed Unit Percentage 5.00%

So then it goes on : CO Percentage Rpms - Higher RPMS to High
HC Percentage Rpms - Higher Rpms to High
Lamda - Rating RPMS - Exceeds beyond allowed ratings at higher Rpms.

So that is what I came up with from the report.. Not to mention the BS of Inspected in accordance of the EU Directive 96/96 ..

EU Garbage can kiss my.... :x

up here in mass we adopted the cali standards for emissions and have teh same test it sucks

but it is more then likely the o2 sensors or the catalytic converter sometimes you can cheat if right before you go in you rev the crap out of your motor for 5-10 minutes and super heat the catalytic converter then the platinum in it actually works more efficiently but only for a short time

:o Heikki, if you smell something like rotten eggs or sulfur try your catalytic converter.

We only pay $11 for inspection and it doesn't include emissions. :R

Hi Miriam... No omelettes cooking or sulfur...so that is out of question then? Ohh I forgot - I did receive 2 cups of coffee from the Automatic Coffee Machine and have to admit it tasted like motor oil...
