13 foot Serro Scotty profile

I hear ya about finding one in Florida... I've never seen a good one either. She drove to Ohio to get that one... and says it was worth it. A year of searching ebay and she finally found one in amazing original shape for $1800.

I have the torsion axels coming and think I'll modiy the chasisoff the OD Tear to build it on. It was overbuilt for the tear. Have in mind to go about a foot narrower though with no built in cooking. Still like to do it outside as much as possible. The frame is 2x2 square and 4x10 long.

Of the various photos posted, the left would appear to be the earlier and lower version while the one on the right is later and taller - I presume this is the only one that has a second bunk over the rear bed.



Sadly the 'Sisters on the Fly' photo has been Photoshopped - the background isn't original and I'm pretty sure the wheels aren't either (hence the apparent ground clearance under the door of around 2"!). However overlaying the two photos and using a body length of 12ft gives surprisingly consistent results (blue early, red late models):



So, Woody, is it the later, taller model Scotty 13ft you are after?

My grandfather used a Scotty to travel the US, Mexico, Canada during the 60s and 70s. Later I used it for camping in NC while in college around 1990. The Scotty he had was most like the smaller one on the left except it was not painted and sported an aged aluminum skin.

It had the bunk over the table/bed mentioned by angib. In fact that is where I stole the bunk idea I used in my tear. It did not have the optional bathroom in the front driver side of the trailer. It did, however, have a closet there. Above the closet was a water tank that fed the kitchen sink. It was a gravity feed system. It also had a drop floor.

OK, I've woken up and realised that a 13ft trailer cannot have a 12ft body - even the short tongues on commercial trailers aren't that short! What made me realise it was that when I scaled out the height with a 12ft long body there was nearly 7ft of headroom!

So now I'm thinking that an 11ft body is about right and also gives a headroom a little over 6ft with the dropped floor. It fits the photo you took, Woody, as well, once I'd flipped and rotated it.



Your photo is of the left side, which is how come the photo has no door.....

What I believe is the standard 13ft Scotty layout seems to fit into this size:



So I'll start drawing out the geometry of this profile, unless anyone tells me I've still got it wrong. It may take some days, as I'm supposed to be doing something else, but this is a good 'displacement activity'....

It's very basic, as I don't think Woody needs much more than the shape, so it's not something for a newbie to try to build a trailer from!

Thanks Andrew... I've got an old TTT with a kinda ugly profile I have been thinking about rebuilding... Methinks the traditional Scotty profile would be a nice way to go.

Very basic? A 9 page PDF with all the dimensions for the camper and trailer frame? I think we have differing ideas on what "basic" is. My "basic" is a piece of scrap paper with epoxy stains, dirt, and whoknowswhattheheckthatredspotis with a lot of illegible crap written all over it.

Great set of plans! Does anyone know what type of side construction the Scotty's used? From the pictures I've seen it just looks like a piece of 1/2" plywood with the interior wood (1/8"?) attached ot the inside and the skin stapled to the outside.
