to the playground Ralf! The trick here is to just ask! We have lots of tips and answers. If you look thrugh the Hall of Fame and the build forums you will find some small teardrops and some really large one.

Your English is fine. Enjoy

Welcome to our little corner of the internet. Your engilish is great!! I'm always impressed with those who are bi-lingual.

I tried to build a motorcycle camping trailer but it didn't work out too well.

Actually it is a simple luggage trailer a friend of mine asked me to put together. I bought a Harbor Freight trailer so I would have wheels, tires, an axle, springs and other hardware. I threw away the frame and made a new light weight one.

What kind of motorcycle are you riding?

Welcome again!!

Hello Joanne !

The bike i got is a BMW K 1200 LT -04. And i just got a Harbor Freight chassie, here i Sweden it has a different name. And they are not painted, they are galvanized i think it is called like that in english. (Rust protected)
I have also been thinking of making a own frame.
There are two projcts that i´m thinking of starting, a teardrop trailer for sleeping in, An the other is just a trailer to put stuff in like tent, chairs, and so on. One nice thing would be to have the opportunity to switch betwen theme. and to have just one chassie so i can switch. Well maybe i am a little bit crazy.

And bobhenry, Miriam C thanks for your tips

Regards from Sweden

Hello Ralf, Hu store det till? Ah ha, it is good to have a Swede on the board who is planning on building a teardrop trailer. You will surely hear from our good Finnish teardrop friend, Heikki. He has one under construction, and is just a hop and a jump across the Baltic from you. When you have completed your teardrop, it will probably be the only one you know of in Sweden. Be ready for lots of attention.

You live in a beautiful country, with your forests, seashores and lute fisk. I spent 2 months in Oland visiting my relatives some years ago. Enjoyed checking out the caravans behind your small cars.

My folks came from Smoland and Oland, so I am a first generation Swede here in the USA. In regards to your construction plans, it would be possible to have a removable teardrop trailer that you can slide onto a cargo trailer. There are some that are built that way. Check out our pics here on the forum and ask any questions you want. Take pics of your efforts and share them with us. We love pics.

Roly, hoppas att du har det so bra..........

Hello Roly !

Jo ! tack bara bra.

The world is sometimes small ! I spend my holidays on Öland, have done that for 24 years. In a small village called Löttorp (Bläsinge) a little bit north of Borgholm.

One problem we are having in Sweden is that for a motorcycle teardrop (unbreaked). Is that a trailer can only weight maximum half of the motorcycles dry weight. In my case about 150 kg. And it can only be 2500 mm long (total)and 1300 mm wide (total).

I agree with you that if i manage to build a teardrop to sleep in for the motorcycle, i will get a lot of questions for sure.

This forum is great

Roly ! sköt om dig I´ll be visiting your homesite now en then to check up on your building.

Regards from Sweden

Raffe,
I remembered this site and thought you might enjoy seeing it. This is Madjack's partners "bedroll" for his motor cycle. It is on the small end of what we see here.

This is Gerald Hynes from Manitoba who did over 20,000km with his teardrop.

Or then here's an oldie for you - a Vagabund Campingwagen being pulled by a DKW RT 200 with maybe 10hp!

Image

You might look at the Ailette (France) or Piccolo (Germany) mini-trailers as being more suitable for a motorcycle - they're a bit smaller than a regular teardrop.

Michael from Holland (trabant) has a recent copy of a piccolo that he has posted about (restoring my Tricolo TTT):

and your BMW has at least twice, or maybe three times, the power of his Trabbie!

But you need to look at the law in Sweden as in most EU countries, motorcycle trailers are limited to 1000mm overall width and, at least in Britain, 2500mm length from the motorcycle rear axle. This limits you to a very small trailer unless you think the police don't know about the motorcycle trailer size law (which many will not!).

In that case, you need the folding motorcycle camper of Frank Mattox that is on my web site
