Why not a vinyl top?

At the chance of redundancy, why not a glue on vinyl top? Anybody do it with sucess? How to do it, where to get materials, how well does it stand up, and what about colors? I'm not leaving till I get answers. (just kidding, sort of). I've got a base of bendable plywood, good and solid.

We are working on a vinyl top here In Reindeerland on our tear...Were just waiting for the vinyl to be sewn since it needs seams to be done plus we are using a few mm in thickness padding underneath ... so we,ll post more details..as we go along...

Here they do it on cars all the time.. and weve got the 4 seasons to go along with it..with good results regardless of the weather changes. I also have a professional to help us install it..

Wife says I can choose any color as long its Burgundy or Red Wine in Color..

Thanks for the input, good info, but I'm still not going away, I want to know about padding and glue or how to fasten it down. We could start a whole new trend here. Kind of like a 60's 70's thing when all cars had vinyl tops. appears to be less expensive too! Classic Finn, is your professional coming to the states anytime soon? We'll give them free room and board.

Check with Leon, I believe his teardrop has a vinyl top. I've seen his rig up close, and looks great!

u could always use snaps on the side about an inch or 2 down like on my jeep. the front on on the jeep has a little plastic rod sewn in it and it slides in a C shaped track like an awning. At 70 in the rain it doest leak or blow off!

It's 78" wide so it doesn't require seams to cover a 5' teardrop. I glued it onto a 5/16 landau closed cell foam. The only probem I had was not letting some of the contact cement properly flash off so I got a couple bubbles under it that are hard to notice most of the time.

I've seen his rig up close, and looks great!

I can ask him for you..

Ours will be coming down both sides about 4cm and under the moulding..
Also under the moulding is a rubber moulding with butyl tape so it will seal properly ..and lock into place. and the top insert is much narrower also.

I see now the moulding we have here is a little different to that most commonly used in the States..

It's called diamond plate vinyl and I believe the link that teardropsleeper posted has it.

It is called vinyl diamond plate, as Chaotica said and I picked mine up at my local car interior guy.
