According to the chart 22 gauge in SS is .034". I would think (given most are using .040 aluminum) that it would be ok. Check on the weight compared to Al. Depending on the alloy you can cut it with a jig saw using a bi metalic blade (not the cheap blades) going slow and keeping the blade cool with water or, wd40, or some other suitable coolant. Is two sheets going to cover your project?
