22 gauge ss

Postby eamarquardt » Wed Sep 12, 2007 11:33 am

According to the chart 22 gauge in SS is .034". I would think (given most are using .040 aluminum) that it would be ok. Check on the weight compared to Al. Depending on the alloy you can cut it with a jig saw using a bi metalic blade (not the cheap blades) going slow and keeping the blade cool with water or, wd40, or some other suitable coolant. Is two sheets going to cover your project?

Cheers,

Gus

Try an air shear or electric shear . They will go though the metal like butter . Keep the jaws lubed good . Kerry

i'm not overly concerned with the weight as it will likely just be used for the top and hatch but i can get two 5'x10' sheets for 150. sounded like a deal to me??

ss price

Postby eamarquardt » Thu Sep 13, 2007 1:18 am

I in Nov. 06 I bought 5 sheets of .040 5'X12' 5052 al for $85.48/sheet. Don't know what the current price is but you can call THyssen Krupp Materials at 800-926-2600 in Santa Fe Springs, Ca. and they have facilities accross the country.

Good luck,

Gus
