I wasn’t trying with that to justify the carrying of a weapon in a campground or anywhere with that article.
The article isn’t about guns; it’s about freedom and government. And guns are just an icon, of litmus of that freedom. That in my opinion does explain why America is so caught up with guns… because it isn’t about the guns at all.
Guns are just one of those subjects, like abortion and gay rights, that people just seem to get really emotional about.
I often get caught up in the middle of these debates, trying to tell folks that there is a "middle ground", where common sense lives.
I agree that the gun debate is to some degree a debate about things on a lager scale, but there again, the debate turns into a battle of absolutes. Either we have total freedom, or we have none.
I just can not buy into all-or-nothing, black-and-white thinking on ANY subject.
I believe we can have our guns, and still have reasonable gun control. I believe we can eliminate almost all abortions without making them illegal. I believe there is a way to provide equality to gays without trampling the religious beliefs of other people.
But, nothing will get done as long as the absolutists control these debates.
