Well, got my first wound overhere

Not by any IED, not by an insurgents bullet. No, by a ¼ inch little beetle. Apparently this littler critter has blister agent for blood and when he was crawling up my arm under my sleeve, I smooshed him (smooshed is a technical military term) I got the blister agent on my arm…. It ain’t pretty! I have a 50 cent sized area on the side of my albow that that is pretty messed up and will probably scar (and it itches like crazy).

A Purple Heart you ask? Sadly no… you see it has been determined by the Department of Defense that while this insect does indeed possess an unfriendly temperament it’s intent in this case was not hostile towards any collation forces. Furthermore the bug in question was acting in a way congruent with self defense and self preservation. Therefore said bug has been classified as a non-combatant. Which leaves me ineligible for any awards…. Just my luck!

Ain't that the pits. You not only have to look out for the insurgents, but now you have to be on the look out for those pesky little bugs.

 Smooshed is good and what is a little scar. Scars are life's reminder that you have lived. Glad it wasn't anything else.

That scar will become a "war wound" some day when you are talking to your grandkids. Right after you tell them how you walked two miles to school in the snow with no shoes when you were their age.

Jeepers-creepers...please tell me that was some hollywood prop bug because that is scary - very, very scary. It gives me the creeps just looking at it.

SFC Hall, I am sorry that little bugger bug gave you a nasty boo-boo but when you get back home to the great USA in one piece, then all of our prayers have been answered. I think I speak from everyone's heart on this forum - We wish you didn't have to be there but THANK YOU for putting yourself in harms way for all of us.

May God bless you and watch over you and your fellow soldiers, keep you safe and bring you back to us and your loved ones soon.

Since said bug was "acting in a way congruent with self defense and self preservation" and "has been classified as a non-combatant" and you admit, "I smooshed him", you might want to get your story straight with any and all knowlegable of this incident in case the NY Times calls in to question your ability to follow proper rules of engagement.
Personally I say smoosh them all and let God sort them out.
