Here we were having all this talk about US citizens defecting to Finland. Today as I'm working I'm listening to country 92.5 An they make an anouncement that the #1 place to live in the world is Finland, 26th is the US. How about that? Heikki you out there listening?

:woohoo: We're Number 26, we're number 26 :woohoo:

Bein' an Merican, I'm proud of my country, no matter where we
end up on some poll. :applause:

So what if we're Number 26, at least we live in the best country in the world, the good ol' US of A.

Yes Sir Im here ... thats interesting ... things are pretty good here at the moment.. but in my opinion Id love to live in teardrop land USA.  However the cost of living here is expensive.. but not as expensive as is Norway..

Also I believe this.. Home is where the heart is.. And I can say mine is here in Little Finland. ;) It all comes to where you have lived all your life and what your accustomed to wherever you may live.

All countries have its good and bad points..

Good point Heikki!

Regardless of what any governmental or non governmental agency uses as criteria for deciding the 'best' place to live, everyone has different requirements/expectations. I personally could not live in Finland. At my age the long cold, dark winters really 'turn me off' so it obviously wouldn't be the 'best' place for me. Actually I can't think of a place that would be 'ideal' for me as it would depend on the time of year since I like to do so many things that are dependent on weather/temperature, etc. I think I already live in a great location, relatively centrally located (USA wise), generally mild climate ('cept for a few weeks in summer), lots of opportunities for the kind of recreation that I like, cost of living not too bad, pretty fair medical care, very few (so far) really intrusive government agencies/policies, & I'm able to drive & pull the TD to lots of 'outta state' locations for things I can't find locally. Hope everyone's as satisfied with their life as I am at this moment! May change tomorrow tho ;)

Hi Harvey

Ive visited Mountain Home Arkansas and I found it beautiful there..
I visited a sort of a Ranch Style Place owned by a family named Mcfadden. If I remember correctly it was huge in acreage, wildlife and it was just a beautiful place in all.

I sure wouldnt mind it there as Im a Countryside Person myself...I cant remember the name of the Deer that ran in the pastures and woods there.

But also at my age I wouldnt move and uproot my kids.. as its safe and education is very good here for them.. aslo for anyone else its safe and quiet.. but the winters are terrible long and cold and summers are too short for my hobbies and recreation also..

there is such a variety in climates there in the USA.. and you can access the these places quite easily.. head south if you prefer and head north again or any diection to be in a climate of your choice.. now that isnt so easily done here..

Even though it can be done but then your in a different country all together.

Things to do and things to see in the States is just huge in variety..

Tear dropping from State to State would be a great dream for me. without being in a hurry or worry..

My favorite story about our perceptions of other countries is this...........

There was a guy from Denver,Colorado traveling thru Switzerland. He was gazing at the snow capped Alps and commented to the Swiss stranger next to him.....

" Aren't those the most beautiful mountains you have ever seen?"

The Swiss gentleman commented.....
"You think those are beautiful? You should see the Rockies."

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Heikki,

My daughter who travels a lot. She just spent 3 weeks traveling thru interior China. As beautiful as it was, she really appreciated her new home in Copenhagen, Denmark. Of all her travels she loves the Scandinavian countries. And that is where she plans on settling and calling home with her Danish boyfriend. She has commented on spending a few weeks in Finland on holiday. She loved it.

And with her being a child of corn country here in the midwest USA, I can fully understand why the young want to move other places. The other places have a little more excitement to offer the youth. But as yopu get older the idea of traffic jams, impolite people, and the fast life loses it's appeal........

Someone here in the midwest should start a theme park similar to "Dollywood" and Disneyland" called "Old Fogey Land." That would give Branson Mo a run for the money.

[I personally think northern Minnesota is the greatest place on earth.]

Minnesota. Michigan Wisconsin are much like Finland and Sweden.

You have to tell your daughters family to contact us if she comes here.
She very welcome to come to visit. The only thing about winter here is no
mosquitos...

I like the story above you mentioned.. Ive experienced the same basically
about tourists coming to Finland and describing the scenic beauty but Ive also told them about places there in the USA that I truly love..

And then we just laugh together about it.. but thats the way it is ..

Yellowstone, Glacier National Parks also Ive visited and then a memorable place is in British Columbia... named Okanagan Valley...
Was it so that up a winding road and down into a valley where there was
a crystal clear lake that basically you can drink water right out of..
Wonders of traveling it was...driving from Thunderbay Ontario to British Columbia as our family did..

I can't speak for Michigan, but Minnesota has a strong northern European influence. And the "blue eyed blonde" influence in the area is a good thing.
I have to laugh ...... Over in Denmark my 5'2" blonde daughter tells me she is the land of giants.

Yes,
Matter of fact in several years I am planning on spending several months traveling throughout that part of Europe. I will make a point of getting in contact with you when Finland becomes part of the plan.

I was in the checkout line of the grocery store yesterday and was shocked to read the cover of National Geographic Adventure magazine declare that Las Vegas is the #1 adventure city in the US!!

http://www.nationalgeographic.com/adventure/relocating/best-places-to-live-2007/index.html

Vegas isn't a bad place to live but I'm not sure that I agree with their assessment.

 Do you remember a comedian named Diane Ford? My favorite bit she did was a long story about how her ancestors endured incredable hard ship and travel thousands of miles just to get to (Minnesota) a place just as nasty as the one they left! (Norway)
