It has been a long time since I have been to California, and I see not going back for a while, do not like California's border guards anyway.

Tom, Kerry, and Uncle Mike thanks, you folks are helping me build this trailer. I can tell many people are watching, 20,000 + views, it just amazes me how many people are watching little old me's progress on the jelly belly.

thanks folks del

Today I did a little house cleaning, pushed the trailer in the yard and sweep under it. Turned it around and pushed it back, only ran over one of Oscar's (dog) land mines. Put the hinge on the body.

Del,

I'm sure you explained that hinge before, but I just can't remember. Please tell us about it. It will be the only one, right??

Looks Like one heck of a hinge. When I clean my garage now I sweep it with a shop vac rather then broom. I think my neighbors think I have finnally lost it completely.

Everytime I open the garage they look over like whats that nutcase going to build now.
My Idea of plans are a tape measure, a saw and a dream.

del, that's a fine looking hinge and should do the job well.

Maybe you'll add just a bit of padding to the arms?......

This trailer in my opinion needs an internal hinge. That hinge is the Binford model 3000 headbanger special seamed to be perfect. True fully I welded it out of square tube and two metal plates and used bolts for pins. And yes only one hinge.

Hey, don't be modest - it may be home made, but it's home made model 3000 and they don't come no finer than that :woohoo:

I installed the door.

But to get the door to open the front of the door has to be spaced about an 1/8" (it should be flush), and then it only opens about 45 degrees before the door hits the outside skin.

My thoughts are rebuild the hinge so the pin is about 4" farther forward. Would that improve it, or make it worse?

Sounds like the Binford 4000 is coming up soon! Whenever I make stuff like that I usually cut out a cardboard profile (looking from the top down at it) and play around with it till I get it workin like I want... Just a suggestion. Unless you can find some trunk hinges off an old Buick... they would work good!

There is some hot-rod trunk hinges already out there kinda like what you are doing:
