Any Archers out there?

Postby MSG Hall » Thu Oct 25, 2007 4:17 am

I just read about a new Bow in the magazine "Bowhunt" (we get free magazines people send us) and I looked it up... I WILL own one when I get back!!! check it out, read the reviews... and this thing comes with a 35 day 100% money back guarantee... what other bow maker offers that?

Cool looking bow. 8)

Lot smaller than I'm used to seeing.

Like the holding weight - 10.5 lbs for a 70 lb bow.

And the overall weight and size are nice too.

The only problem I see is the price. But then most rifles are in that range, so maybe it's ok.

I'd like to shoot it. Too bad not alot of dealers have it. Only problem I see is with the dual cam. I have shot other dual cams and they always have timing problems. They even mention how to correct timing problems on their site.
I currently shoot a PSE Triton and a AR34.

I used to shoot before I broke my arm in a motorcycle accident back in 1984. I've tried several times since then but I just can't pull them back anymore.

I was thinking about getting one for my younger boy as one of his Xmas presents. Don't want to spend a lot for a first bow, but can a kid start on a compound bow? I was thinking about this:

I use a crossbow now, can't do the draw and twist any more.
But that is a really cool bow. If I was still shooting a standard bow I'd have to seriously consider that one!! I like!!

Ira , if you don't have a lot of knowledge of archery , I would suggest taking your son to a real archery shop ( not Wal-mart ) to be fitted for a bow. I have been an archer for about 40 years . Your son can greatly benefit from trying different bows at a shop. You & he can also learn a great deal from the shop as well. It usualy makes for a much better experience if you go to a pro shop. If you start with a cheap misfitted bow it will not be fun at all & could be very discouraging for him . Just a thought. Good luck.

When I was a young lad about 11 or 12.... My Dad got us each bows, nothing fancy. Had a hay bale out back with a target. I got mine taken away when I decided it was much more fun to shoot the arrows straight up in the air (and got caught) we had even more fun in the woods trying to kill all sort of small game - good thing Dad and Mom couldn't see what we did.

Don't know if we have any archery shops around here, but I'll check.

He's a little guy like me, and I hear what you're saying about it fitting.

I shoot a Hoyt these days. I went from their single cam to the cam and a half bow. I have had no timing issues with it.

That Liberty bow looks interesting. I would like to shoot it, but it looks pretty complicated. I believe in keep it simple. I always thought the same thing about the Oneida bow.

Ira, how little is your little guy? My daughter started shooting when she was 5 or so. She is 11 now and I just got her, her first "real" bow. I would definitely recommend a bow shop. Sometimes they have kids’ days where a bunch of kids shoot; they get some instruction and trophies or prizes. Usually they have them on Saturday morning, take him and see if he likes shooting.

I had to laugh when I read that part about shooting straight up in the air...... I got my first bow when I was about 10...... My cousin and I went out to my grandmothers farm and did exactly that......... We shot the arrow straight up, and then we jumped into a wooden doghouse to think we were safe.........
I bowhunted for 15 years. I gave it up 15 years ago. I was actually thinking about getting started again , but I pulled some things in my arm/elbow and I have a hard time pulling a compound. But several weeks ago I discovered that crossbows are legal with a doctors document. I looked into crossbows and realized that they are becoming popular.........
With some people at least. Pretty controversial here in Iowa.

I believe they are pretty controversial every where they get used. I know they were in Ohio and still are in PA. I really don't see what the fuss is about. From my experience they are no more effective than a compound maybe a little less so as far as range goes. And they aren't any easier to carry around. The only possible advantage I've seen is the ability to carry them drawn.
