Bean bag game called Cornhole great for camping easy to make

Postby Tcurr » Tue Nov 06, 2007 5:47 pm

Figured with winter coming up I would post how I make the boards as everyone here can easily make there own.

I use 2 X 2 for the framing and miter the corners together.

You will need 4 24 inch pieces
4 48 inch pieces
4 11 1/2 pieces for the legs I cut the top corners off these, and leave about 1/4 inch flat on top
2 18 inch cross members for the legs
I use 2 inch screws and angle them slightly from below.

I use 5/16 3 1/2 toggle bolts with lock nuts the holes are 3/4 inch down from the inside of the top frame rail and 3/4 down the side frame rail.

I use 1/2 oak or birch 4 ft. x 2 ft. the hole is 12 in from side 9 in from top and 6 inch around.

Bags are 6 inch across filled with feed corn made from duck cloth.

I use an exterior high gloss paint and about 7 coats of polycrylic on the top.

I also make tailgaters which is exactly half size of the big ones, the only diff is the hole is 4 inch and bags are 3 since the bags dont have the flex the big ones do.

Here are some pics of some of the boards I haqve made. Any questions about how to make any or were to find different decals etc. feel free to ask.

That game goes by about ten different names. This is not the best one to use, I would suggest.

Here are a few alternatives...

Intersting Never heard of the different Names and the game is very popular by that name in Columbus, Ohio. But I am coming to find that in other parts of the country people do not know of the game.

Thanks for the link

I lived in Cincinnati long enough to learn not to get in a cornhole tournament in a gay bar.

Cornhole is a version of a the yard game of washers--and in this case the "yard" is a prison yard. Washers is played using two one foot squares of 3/4 inch plywood with a 2" diameter hole in the center of the plywood. A piece of 1X2 is nailed along one side of each board to give the boards a slight slant and the edges usually have two rows of holes roughly the diameter of a cigarette butt that are used for keeping score.

The two goals are set 25 to 30 feet apart. The game is scored similar to horseshoes and is played with large washers--four or six depending upon the 'yard' that are painted two different colors.

Alternate goals are permanently installed using tin cans buried to the lip in the ground, however, you lose the score keeping option. see

I was reading just recently about this game and the "American Cornhole Association"

http://www.playcornhole.org/

Seems like there's quite a thriving organization out there that's rather upset that a national sports retailer is selling this game under the name of BAGGO it's quite likely to be come a lawsuit over the use of the name--- and the national sports retailer ......DICKS!

Wife's best friend lives in Westerville.

Once upon a time, wife is in OH visiting aformentioned best friend. Calls me up. Laughing, she says "We've been playing cornhole all night!!!"

I was, for once, quite speechless. Should I be offended I wasn't invited? Should I be shocked? Hmm...

Good game for camping though. So is bocchi. (Can't spell, sorry)

Like darts and bowling, bocce' is one of the most perfect games in the world. Why? It only requires one hand to play.

Unlike darts and bowling where the nonplay hand is used to hold a longneck, bocce' uses a wineglass. Now if tossing a kaber only required one hand------

Cornhole!

Postby Nancy P » Wed Nov 07, 2007 9:16 am

I was introduced to this game by my nephews in Ohio. They were high school/college age at the time, and I was happy they were playing cornhole with their friends, rather than other less wholesome games. It truly is hours of fun entertainment!
I don't want to get to the end of my life and find that I have just lived the length of it. I want to have lived the width of it as well ;)

I went to school in Ohio and I used to hear people say cornhole, but I guess I misunderstood what they were talking about. I also used to hear dingle berrys mentioned. That must be a local thing too. There don't seem to be any in South Carolina.
