Today, I take off my uniform.....

Postby sid » Wed Nov 21, 2007 2:45 pm

When I get home from work today, I take off my uniform for the last time. My discharge orders are effective tomorrow. I am retiring as a Command Sergeant Major after 35 years, 4 months and 10 days of military duty with the Army National Guard who I work for full time. I have mixed emotions about this, as I am sure everyone would, no matter what job they had been doing this long.

A Happy Thanksgiving wish goes out to all the service men and women, especially those who are deployed and away from their families. I've been there and done that and know what it feels like.

Any suggestions about the transition?

Of course, I have my eye on another trailer project for the winter

Sid,

Congratulations! I could only take it for 22years and 25 days (fulltime USAF)- Hung it up effective 1 Oct 95!!

I took about a year off without any thoughts of going back to work. Just enjoyed life a bit. Of course, I did not know about teardrops back then or things might have been different, who knows! :?

I'm sure that you will find something to keep you occupied and busy!! Hey, just enjoy the holiday and don't even think about it.

Thank you for your service. Congratulation and best wishes on your retirement.

Now go start making more sawdust!

Sid,

Congratulations on your retirement! The transition is easier than you think, although picking out what clothes to wear everyday can be tough!

Thanks for your service, and the sacrifices you have made.

I am humbled by your responses... many kind words... Thank you.

Side (my wife Pat) will also retire as a Master Sergeant the first week of January with 31 years, 6 months and 25 days of active duty service.

Together, we have been known as an E17... if you follow military lingo!

Look out TD Gatherings! We may make then ALL!!!!!! Well, we'll try anyway.

MadJack... with the end so near, this is why we couldn't make your birthday party, it's transition time! Look out next year, we plan to be there, with bells on!!

Sid: :)

About your mixed emotions:

Right now you are too close to the years of your service to our country, to get a full perspective.

Your apprehension is to be expected, however your length of time giving of
self to the service of your state and country is substantial and now the time
to pass this responsibility is justified.

May you find the pleasure of reaping the rewards of your patriotic labors.

I too wish to extend my congratulations and a heart felt thank you for your
Army National Guard service.
