The California Storms - Report in Finnish

Postby Classic Finn » Sat Jan 05, 2008 8:35 pm

Dont know if any of you have any knowledge about the Finnish Language so I thought it was time for you to read about the California Storm situation but in my language.

This is what the wording looks like.

Kalifornian myrsky saattaa yltyä paikoin ankarimmaksi vuosikymmeneen.

San Francisco.

Alueelle annettu tulvavaroitus kuitenkin peruttiin. Viranomaiset kehottivat asukkaita välttämään teillä liikkumista Sierravuorten sekä Tahoejärven alueilla, missä lumikinokset kasvoivat paikoin puolitoistametrisiksi.

Criticizing California Drivers

Postby eamarquardt » Sun Jan 06, 2008 12:36 pm

Gosh guys, lighten up. Most Californians are just products of their environment. Because it rarely rains in most of the state (a lot more of Ca. would be a desert if it weren't for irrigation) most of the drivers haven't learned to slow down in rain (or snow) and make sure their tires are appropriate for the conditions at hand. In addition, since it rarely rains (in most parts) the oil that drips out of cars doesn't get regularly washed away. So when it does rain, the streets are extra slippery before the oil washes away, compounding the problem.

Most Californians are "out of touch" with this reality, and simply haven't learned how to drive safely.

I can say this, cause I'm a native. "I may be wrong, but my logic is irrefutable".

Cheers,

Gus

Ohmy, southern californians really cannot drive in anything but sunny weather.

There's 2 types:

1. The "It's raining, and therefore must be as slick as ice" type. They drive about 10mph.

2. The others that are angry at type #1. They drive at about 90mph.

Makes for a wreck-o-rama. Of course, I am niether of those two... Only because my vehicle tops out at about 60.... :)

Think rain is bad, Socal moutains in the snow are really where the fun is. :)

I've seen: People putting on chains in the MIDDLE of the road. People putting chains on the rear wheels of a front wheel drive car. People with chains inproperly tensioned that beat massive dents into thier fenders. Folks that assume that because you've put the chains on you stop faster by pressing harder on the brakes. No chains. Bald tires. etc... Think that if folks like to ski, they'd learn how to drive to the slopes.

Last time I went up during a storm the poor chp guy just looked so miserable - he was turning away at least half the cars for no or improper chains. Only in socal do we need police officers to block roads because of snow. Think if that would ever happen in Montana..

Well, I recognized 'San Fransisco', 'Kalifornian' and a few numbers, aside from that it looks like a whole bunch of vowels with a few consonants thrown in here an there for good measure.
Must be a little tough for a ferner to learn the pronunciations!

Heikki,

Well Heikki,

I just wrote, When you write in your home language, you have to keep the right direction. I have readed your finnish very secure and it wasn't the same with the weatherforcast in the States. The W F said very windy and you wrote a little wind. 2nd The W F said it was raining cats and dogs and you wrote just a few drops of rain. Thats not fair Heikki!!!!!!!!!!!! :x :x :x :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D
