Jewels - count me in! I'm serious so if you do decide to do that, please contact me. Then we could jazz up our teardrop and go camping all over the U.S.of A. ;)

Well girls..... I was getting excited this week , planning to pick up the new & improved Jewel Box yesterday, but ends up the paint job is done, but the reassembling is not . And my friend needed to go to his son's or something on Saturday... so now it might be 4th of July when I pick it up.

I am getting so excited... and yes, yes, yes... I'll take a ton of pictures. I need to update my build album and then finally will feel like it's 'done' and will submit it for the Hall of Fame.

I'll do you all a favor, and post the link on this thread first since , like a new diamond ring ... you want to put out your hand and show of the bling bling to your best girlfriends first and get all the attention and the oo's and ah's !!!!!

But here's a hint... a friend of mine does painting for a living and has done nice work on cars too, and was going to get the paint for me but then knowing that I don't have a garage or carport anymore, and no sprayer and couldn't afford much .... he took it in April and has been working on it here and there. I know this past week he got the paint on, the clear coat on , and now needs to reassemble. He got me something for a tongue box too but I don't know what!! and also told me he did a couple of surprises, but won't tell me what... hmmmm.

He said he doesn't ever want to paint another one.. haha and I thought 'that's okay, I don't want another one to look like mine!" haha
All I can say right now is that it is silver metallic and a design with gold metallic. The same wheel fenders, they are gold. Every day this week, in the parking lots if I see a silver and a gold car parked close , it makes me think of the new look!!!

So I sold my bright blue First Up canopy, and am going to get the tan one they have at Wally Marty now. And I'll be all pumped up to get some bling bling things finished on the interior.... some little crystal thingies, some new gold curtains, and I'm thinking of how to do the font to get my "name" on the trailer.

... hm.... we don't have an emoticon of a giddy girl with her shoulders raised and smiling, saying "I can't wait!!"

hahaha

Right now all my camping is in a tent. I belong to the SCA and Markland and all my camping is with them.
My tent is a 10 X 12 canvas with six foot walls. It also has a wood-burner stove for heat. Trouble is it takes a couple of hours to set up and another couple to pack up. I am 61 and single. That is why I started to look at trailers. Cost keeps most trailers out of reach. Also almost all of the camping is done in remote fields where it is next to imposable to get anything big in and out of.
I don't like pop-ups but in my search I found the tear-drops and at a road-side rest last fall I met a family with a tear-drop. It is an attention getter and I found if you ask "Can you really fit even one person in that thing?" They will go out of their way to show you.
The two of them ran to open it up and show it off.

I can't afford one now and since I rent and do not have a garage or anywhere else to build it I will have to wait a while longer.

But I would love to build one if I had the space to do so. Since I am really looking for a easy way to camp (and stay warm) a simple box can do that. So anything I build that is better than that is a bonus.
As a child I was my own imaginary friend.

Welcome to our camping world, even if your just envious right now!! haha

I luckily was in a house with a huge yard and workshop when I built mine, and had a neighbor friend who helped with a few things (I learned a LOT) but now I'm in a smaller house with no garage or carport!!!
So I can understand your frustration. Think about if you have a friend or relative who might loan you a little space and / or look for a partially built or fixer upper... and make it your own.
You will love how easy it is to set up camp when all you have to do is back up, take out your bag chairs, and open the hatch. I made mine so that I don't have to pack SO much necessary stuff in the car like I did with camping.

Good luck !!!

what a great tent! I have friends who also participate in the renaissance.
I am one that has several side tables that I set up with my galley. I love to cook and just a small campstove doesnt make it for me.
That is what is so great about the teardrops. You make it your own. We didnt bulid ours but have put a lot into making it our own.
I learned how to sand, bondo and paint. It has been great fun. You will have fun on this board while you are dreaming and making plans.

Welcome and Hello Siobhra. :)

Is that a wall tent or a wedge tent. Either way that is a lot of heavy canvas. Look around in the hall of fame and ask question were here to help.

Jewels: I can't wait to see what has happened to the Jewel Box. That sounds so exciting.

Soibhra: Welcome to the forum. My mind is buzzing just thinking of how you'd decorate with a medieval theme. There are so many possibilities. Several names for the tear popped in my head too. Here's one Knight's Tear
;)

Anyway, keep looking, keep thinking and eventually you'll have the money for building or purchasing your new tear.

I once had a Scotty many years ago and I called it

Escape Pod I

My 4 X 6 utility trailer that I carry my camping gear in is called

Escape Pod II

But I like that idea of Knights Tear. Great for when I am "Jousting Around".

The tent is a "Traders Tent" from Panther Primitives.

Image Soibhra, to our playground. My sister used to do civil war reenacting and they have a big canvas tent too. When I suggested she make a Teardrop she asked why..........She likes her tent........She is aging too.
8) ;) The wonderful thing about a teardrop is you can put that big softsicer around it and no one will know. ;)

Hi, ladies...I haven't posted in this thread in awhile, but I'm still reading, and waiting for the unveiling of the new Jewel Box. Welcome, Siobhra (in Scots Gaelic, I think that would be prounounced 'shiv-rah' -- am I even close?) And welcome to anyone I may have missed.

My news is that I'm getting a chemo break this week while the oncologists confer (and if I'd known that six weeks ago, I'd have entered this weekend's dog show circuit which is only 90 minutes away!) Instead, I'll probably try to get done around the house things that I can't do on chemo weeks--like, pretty much everything! ;)

My brother is also helping me fix the winter damage to the Sunspot--one tire was punctured, probably by the Bobcat they use to plow that lot, and we decided to replace both of them. And as long as we're working on the tires, we're going to do the bearing repack and take a good hard look at the undercarriage, and maybe install a braking system. Then, when it's not tilting like the leaning tower of Pisa, I'm going to start working on the electrical system, and maybe spend a couple non-chemo nights camping in the parking lot (still not really strong enough to move it...)

The good news is that I've been able to check over the interior thoroughly, and even though it was tilted for some of the time I was gone, it didn't take on any water (and we've been through some serious rain, although not as much as the mid west.) So all the recaulking and sealing I did last year really did pay off.

At least I can see it every day, even if I can't go camping. And I may go to a couple close by state parks to pick out 'perfect sites' for my notebook--even if I can't camp, I can make plans.

Gaelen:
I was wondering where you were and how you are doing. Glad to hear you are on a break. My daughter-in-law's mom, who is 51, is taking her 5th treatment this week (inflammatory breast c.) and it is the strong medicine now so it is starting to kick her butt. Her attitude is so positive (she has lots of cheerleaders) but she has a hard time joining us on outings after chemo week.
Ok, gotta cut it short...terrible storm just blow up outside. Take care.
