doug hodder wrote:Danny, you're blowin' and goin' on this build! It really looks great!!! I'm with you on the cabinets. Build what you want for the look you want and worry about cutting weight somewhere else. Everyone notices the cabinets, especially yours. Not a place to cut corners.  Doug

Thanks Doug. Your absolutely correct, the cabinets really gets people excited especially if you use premium woods and do a great job. The 4 Red Oak raised panel doors for my cabin weigh only 8 pounds in total. I'm happy all that aluminum work is done, not my favorite medium to work with. Bending insert molding around 4" radius's is a bear cat :x . The rest of the build will be a piece of cake and right down my alley. :D Danny

Thanks for the kudos :) . I'm happy with this build and the improvements I've made from my first one. It's hard to see in the photo but I added the "J" molding under the door too to keep highway rainwater from being forced through the bottom seal of the doors. It curves up towards the fender and covers all the door with the exception of about 16" in the door handle area. I also took Grants advice and sanded the "T" molding at the corners to avoid wrinkled aluminum. It's not that noticeable but but I think it adds to the appeal of the build. :D Danny

I'll try to remember all that I've changed  . Trap doors from the interior to remove and replace the two batteries, Deck latches on the foot well, shallow foot well (6") vs a 11" one. Ditched the "Little Diner" idea as we never used it. Moved the axle forward about 4" to take some load off the tongue, Sanded a 5" radius on the inside of aluminum trim to make life simpler, "J" molding under the doors to keep the mattress dry. Put all power in the drivers side foot board cabinet to reduce the footage of wires, smoother tire tread to avoid rocks from making stars on the chromed fenders, lighter chassis, side tables, roof insulation only, 7/8" walls, simpler tongue box (just a lid & no doors), perfect aluminum skins (no scratches), pre-finished all parts before erecting walls. I also used the flexible automotive conduit with the slit for wires vs electrical conduit that was an overkill. There are other slight changes that I'm sure I'll remember later. :D Danny

I'd like to sell TD #1 but Jane is so attached to it so I'll sell #2. Jane wants to be involved in marketing it & I like her ideas so we will go with that. She doesn't want me to divulge her marketing plan. 8) Danny

I took TD # 2 in to be weighed today. I left it hooked up to the tow vehicle like I did on #1 since it's usually the axle weight the state is taxing you for and the yards don't like you holding up the line of big trucks. I still need to build the galley cabinets but it weighed 1200# just like the first one that has 1" popular framing in the floor and walls. This one has 94# of batteries at the axle & #1 didn't and I'm guessing that makes up for the framing. The tongue weighed 135# last night with me holding it on a bathroom scale. I'll get it inspected July 1st. :) Danny

After 1/2 hour at the state inspection station and then a trip to the DMV ( 2 hours) TD#2 is licensed. It seems the state was having computer problems and they only take check or cash so I had to make a trip to my banks ATM. Now I can let it sit out in the hot sun and fume off the sealants and finishes. We've decided to sell TD #1 after all, as you can see in my signature line. May take some time to sell it with the crummy economy were in but I'm in no hurry. Listing it below the $20K I was offered before. :D Danny
