Designing a Puffie Standie?

Does anyone know how high a Lo-Liner was? Doug

I quickly measured one that was beside a job site of mine once. Externally the lowered section was 73", so I'd guess no more than 5' 10" inside, probably less. It was also 122" long and 77"wide. The profile looks roughly like this:

Thanks Greg....just thinking about what the original profile height was in case I wanted to build a standie in the future. I'd really have to stoop in those dimensions. It's just got to fit through the door. My door is sort of short, so a drop axle or low profile would be in order, and maybe a drop well in it. Still looking (half heartedly) for a Scotty....but have my eyes on a nice canned ham nearby. No one is ever around to ask about it however. Doug

How about taking a T&B Clamshell model - you have the kitchen out back, a bed across-wise that makes into a dinette, and then you take the front storage, etc. and make a bathroom in one corner (no pun intended) and still have room for a counter across the remaining front.

Yes, I'd love to be able to have it fit in the garage. In terms of height, I'd probably plan on a dropped floor in the aisle, at least as an option. Then without the dropped floor it would be a slouchie.

That sounds like the Generic ET! or the Tailgater... And that just too big to be a lightweight. By adding the bathroom, I have to give up the galley.



I thought about the tab profile too, but it's too hard to bend the plywood around the tail.

Those big beds are nice , but such a space hog ... bunks or trundle beds that become a sofa during the day is much more practical ..ever travel in a train sleeper compartment/room???.... We now believe a potty/shower is a must ...and can be very simple ...
We're now a TD and TT household , and of course , I'm not happy with either... After being into this for several years , we now know what we need and what is just wasted space /weight...each owner should determine what is best for his/her needs and design/build accordingly..

The roof is 2/3s done. We ran out of plywood. We are out of town this weekend, but next weekend we will start the plywood hunt again.

Yes, the ET is perfect for Chell and I.

This tiny standie is for those folks who want a bed and a bathroom in a small package.

So when do you start building your ET?

I wanted a standie too............but I cheated and purchased this Scotty. It's 13' 6" long and that includes the tongue!

I like Doug H's design. Build it just under 5 feet tall and have a removable cupola to get it in and out of the garage.

The thinking on this model/design was that I really only needed a small place to stand and dress so why make it full height full trailer length? And I really wanted a front skylight or two. ( and I really kind of liked the old Olds Vista cruiser!)

I'm thinking about modeling up a standie in CAD. I might turn it into blueprints, or I might turn it into plans, like the Generic Benroy plans. The Generic Benroy plans where helpful on my build, so I am in favor of plans

But I need your thoughts.

At first blush, I'm thinking about the Puffin. With the bed and the porta potty, it could fit the bill for a lot of people who don't want to trek to the outhouse at night.

I'm thinking it could be built on a H.F. trailer, out over the wheels. If someone does not want to build over the wheels, buy a different wider axle (or widen the H.F. one.

So here's the question. What floor plan would you guys like to see? Similar to the puffin only with options to make it longer. Has anyone came up with the maximum distance you can stretch the H.F. frame and be safe?

If memory serves me correctly the Puffin had a bed that was only 48" wide and 72" long. I'd like to see a larger mattress than that. Me to.

The Puffin had a bathroom/shower that was 30x36". That seems okay.

So point me in the right direction, something that would appeal to the most people here. what about a canned ham profile?

Okay, I've been thinking...

Those of you that suggested the bed go crosswise, you are probably right.

But I think we need to start with the 5x8 trailer, so that we can go 78" wide.

As an option, we can include the narrow version which would be built on a 4x8, but it would only be 72" wide.

If you guys think that's a good starting point, I'll see what kind of a profile will hold a 60" wide mattress, plus a single bunk above it.
