New gal from PA

Hi, everyone!

Decided to make the step from reading (and drooling over your gorgeous teardrops!) to introducing myself. I am a nurse living in York, PA, and find that by far, the most satisfying use of my time is in making things.

I saw the teardrop trailers on television a few months ago, and was fascinated. Tent camping just doesn't cut it anymore, and hubby and I tried an old, large RV, which was more trouble than it was worth. These trailers look perfect, and also cost-effective, a big consideration given the current price of gas.

Also, I am currently very interested in building a tiny house on wheels (see www.tumbleweedhouses.com) but have only limited experience with building. I plan to take a carpentry course this fall, with more to follow, and thought that building one of these intriguing tiny trailers would be a good intro. to working on a larger scale at some point.

So that is my story. Tomorrow night I am going to look at a trailer that is 6' x 10' with 12" tires. (The guy is asking $600.) I'd like to do a decent size TD with room for a little table, so this seemed a good-sized base. (Maybe the Lil Diner or something like it...so many cool choices!) I would appreciate any and all feedback. I'll probably be doing much of the work myself, maybe my husband will get interested, but I'm not counting on that right now. Oh, and I'm not a patient person, either. I want everything yesterday!

That's enough for now. :)

Hey Robin,

Welcome to the forum.

Building your teardrop will teach you some patience... of course I suspect you'll have a lot of fun doing it. ;)

Mike...

Hi Robin, welcome to the forum. It sounds like you have already made up your mind that your can really build this thing. Good for you, that is half of the battle. Do check out other local tears, if you have a chance, or attend a gathering if you can. Good luck on your build, it sounds exciting. Take pics, post em and come and join in on all of the fun.
Roly

Image to the playground Robin and hubby.. I built my really big td and had a ball. Not a patient person either but watching glue dry will certainly teach you----to do something else 8) while waiting. Like yak on the puter.

Seriously take lots of pictures. You can't go back and do them later and they will keep the bubble oil level.

Enjoy

Thanks, everyone, for the kind words and encouragement!

My husband and I will be checking out Kerry's TD in the near future -- thanks, Kerry!

Aunti M, I looked briefly at your TD album (Rats! Have to get ready for work now) and it looks like you used a trailer with the deck over the wheels. Is that right? It does seem like an advantage to not have to deal with covering the wheels and designing around them. What plans did you use, or upon what plan(s) did you base your design? I am looking for something with a good bit of room, but am almost overwhelmed by the variety of choices... like a kid in a candy store. :D
