According to that page, I guess my brother will be cutting his Port Arransas vacation short. They arrived there Sunday and were going to leave this coming up Saturday.

Let's go surfing now, ev'ry body surfin' now . . .

I guess if I'm gonna learn how to get in the surf in the new yak, I should learn in the most extreme conditions--NOT!!!

The forecast this morning put it on a course south of us with us getting tropical force winds and 1-2 inches of rain. What few folks realize that in Corpus, we get tropical force winds all the time. They just don't call it that unless there is a storm a brewin'. The rest of the time, it is just windy.
Still graced with two eyes and ten fingers (due in no small part to luck!).

Just when you think a problem is solved, an uglier result replaces it.

Imagine Texas getting rain in July though. That might call for a party.

Rain in July? I think we have a city ordinance against that. Shoot--it will probably make that brown stuff in my front yard turn green and cause it to grow. Where did I store that gas powered lawn cutter thingy?

Lordi-mercy!

I made my usual Monday evening after work trip to the supermarket. You would have thought that it was either the end of the world or that a category 5 hurricane was bearing down on us. The parking lot was full. Cars were 3 and 4 deep at the gas pumps. Out of stock on water, potted meat of any type. The shelves were going bare and baskets were full. I picked up the couple of routine items, paid and got the hell out of that zoo.

I always support the idea that people should prepare for a storm. But seriously--it doesn't even look like we will get a moderate blow and minimal rain at that. Talk about a population overreacting. Momma nature will probably deliver a tree to my noggin, but I'm not expecting much out of Dolly here in CC.

(I'm really just pissed cause I couldn't buy any tuna!)

Tony,
Send it up here. We could use a cat 1 to come through and give us some rain.

That sounds like my yard right now. I don't care if it rains or not, just have to mow grass again if it does.

Right now conditions are getting worse by the minute. The sun is shining too brightly and we are getting blown away by fart-force winds in the 15-20 mph range. I'm gonna go put on my sun storm gear and try to get the yard mowed before this storm hits the coast 200 miles south. :rainy:

:NC Tony do you think I should board up my windows here? Ya never know it could have a change in direction? Maybe its just me, but I get the impression from the Weather Channel that it could be the end of the world! They are the HURRICANE AUTHORITY:NC Should I go stock up on SPAM? I don't like Spam, but I could use it to plug levees or something?

  :gas:
While the weather channel is blowin an goin over the fart force winds Cherokee County KS (Galena) had 60-70 mph straight line winds. They didn't make the weather dispite the golf ball to base ball size hail. This is normal for them even in July and the reason I have a cell phone. They just spawn over there and wear themselves out on the best fishing around.

The weather channel is playing it up big. Says it is going to land between Brownsville and Corpus and tear everything up.

I don't think 10 people live between the two towns. There is nothing there but the King Ranch.

Actually, it will probably kill thousands of illegal immigrants that swarm thru that area.

All kidding aside, a category 1 hurricane can and will do lots of damage, and is very dangerous. I just can't believe how wound up people get from the media when the storm is hitting 200 miles away. At fifty miles from the center, the winds are usually pretty brisk. At 200 miles away, the weather is totally different.
